SPORTS MAN-you seem to be a pretty sensible and knowledgeable guy.
Can I get your thoughts on this?
I think Moschetti was able to do some good things while he was at La Mirada. I also agree that his success stems from athletes from outside the La Mirada area. But if you look at his overall win-loss record, it’s not that impressive. The State Championship you referenced wouldn’t happen without those out of area athletes. The sectional championship was a mid level division. Probably comparable to division 6 or 7 in today’s current format.
As for what will happen while he’s at St Paul, that’s yet to be seen. That schedule is tough. Not many would be willing to schedule that. If they are able to make a run in league and get into the postseason, what division will they end up in?
Maybe you can clarify but didn’t St Paul under the previous coach, make some decent runs in the playoffs?
yes he did get lots of transfer that helped produce a state champion! Cannot argue with truth, but didn’t he actually kind of deserve getting several very good athletes that would turn a program from good or possibly very good into a great program? And , not sure myself, did he stimulate players to become consistently play up to their potential? I do know he did improve the LM program quite a bit winning a league championship again
i believe there is legal ability to go to schools that are not in a family’s community; and it has been that way for a while. If you meant LH has gotten some African American transfers then power to them for winning all the time; about every time. Maybe some players want to play in a very good program with proven coaching staff .
At LM he also had a lot of tranfers
@Sportsman not sure …I don’t go back that far , but seems like gradually over past 10-15 years , but precipitous drop since 2020
pink? hired wrong coach? Rosemead ? Well does even one administrator give a tiny bit of feces about the football program? And definitely, with zero doubt, they could not care one bit about baseball program keeping the same and more of the same leadership for years. You guys on here I ask on question I think is very important. “If you were an administrator, or AD , at Rosemead: would you try to find someone that might bring the program up a notch with every season? But NOT AT ROSEMEAD H S OF THE EL MONTE UNION HS DISTRICT! Heck! open the job up to all outsiders to apply; interview them all (who knows a college player with good education too academically or not?) . Try to hire another experimenting if there could be a better coach available to help the school’s athletic program! Simple common sense and definitely logical and showing a caring for students that these administrators who collecting over $200,000 salary every year have not cared! Or get a new principal with an athletic background who definitely knows 100% how important sports are
Fallen Panther; MVL started to regress big time since the late eighties correct?
Surprised ? Who declared St Paul ‘dead’ last week? I would not declare that at all, because I (will i be right or wrong about him?) always support The Head Coach , and all head coaches, who have success like Muschetti has. Do the ‘dead declarers’ have one ounce of knowledge that taking over a very average program and turning it into a very good program is very difficult? What he accomplished at LM was nothing less than extremely good to great ! He directed players to play to their potential; and that requires work, work and more work mentally and on the field
ahs- EM don’t have much talent I suggest, not know that! And when a team is low on talent , with poor bench, they must experiment with players with lesser talent but possibility for improvement. And there probably was good reason to not start qb of past
@Goldbtick… how can you say Mt View is on upward trajectory when they were embarassed by Garey ?????….. re: Rosemead – hire the wrong guy …::.Arroyo will be rolling come league play because the rest of the MVL stinks .
I was at the El Monte game and I was confused. They started their best WR at QB. Then they put the QB that played the previous two game and he threw 3 ints that I saw, one for a pick 6 it was returned 94 yards. I think their RB got hurt because in the second half he had his shoulder pads off. They had their CB running the ball. Maybe they are working on a few things. Looking forward to the opening of league play, that game will determine who will be league champs. I got my money on the baby blue.
Why does Montebello wear yellow? Because there scared!
Montebello BLOWS!
El Monte laid a stinker vs SG. Played a very sloppy game. Time to get back to work and grind. Still have them as the favorites for league.
Arroyo- nice win. The crew is greasing the machine and they will have it rolling come league play.
Mt. view looked like the mt view last week. But the program is on an upward trajectory. What that means who knows.
SEM with a shocking win vs MTB. Maybe they can ride this into the season and put their name in the hat against EM and Arroyo.
Rosemead- how has a once proud program fallen so fast.
There’s not that much talent in Montebello, most kids that do well at the youth level are from out of town.
The only real fair competition is maybe elementary school teams…..but come to think of it.
All the talent in the city or area does not go to MHS they’re probably 3rd option in the city for many.Pete does what he can with the level of talent he gets.
@NWO El Monte has looked like clear class of the MVL . This loss to SG shows how far the entire league has regressed.
Rosemead shut out in consecutive games ??? Who is the OC ? Very disheartening for Panther faithful. We don’t like donuts of that variety
Agree that Montebello needs a complete overhaul. Both sides, offense and defense weren’t into the game. Good win for SEM and Coach Gallardo in his farewell tour.
The level of play under Pete Gonzalez at Montebello is totally unacceptable. No amount of nice talk can hide the fact that this coach needs to step aside and let new talent run that show.
where is the score for La Puente vs. Sierra Vista.
@SGV……..says more about Montebello!
St Paul is still showing signs of life after being declared dead last week. Staying within 10 points of mighty Damien, even in a losing effort, is no small feat. Congratulations to Mike and company.
South El Monte’s Defense shutting down Montbello? Didn’t see that happening.
San Gabriel 28 El Monte 21 Final
El Monte’s football announcer is one of the best I’ve heard in a while. Good job sir.
@Bummer
I was at the game last night and that is all I could think about haha. Downey is going to end that “rivalry” game before the end of the 1st quarter. It’ll be interesting to see if Northview can give LS a better game next week… they will definitely be more physical than Warren.
Did not know La Habra had such a large African_American population. Yhe diversity is nice to see in the OC. I hope my team can get a handful of those Bishop Montgomery players that are now in the wind. Though I do not think we can afford them.
Looks like the annual Downey-Warren game is going to be a bust. Sure, the Bears will be up for the game, but the Vikings are even better than La Serna.
