Alhambra’s Ochoa is Interim for Torres

Jacob Ochoa is the interim Coach at Alhambra

(Alhambra) – Jacob Ochoa, the defensive coordinator for Alhambra, has stepped in as head coach for Lou Torres, who is out with an undisclosed illness.

It’s an interim position for now as Torres is expected to be back for the Temple City game next week. The Moors came up short in Ochoa’s initial game at La Canada.

“I’m the coach right now,” Ochoa said. “Coach (Torres) will be okay but it’s just something that he needed to take care of. We’re moving on and working hard. Hopefully he’ll be back for the Temple City game next Friday.”

The Moors dropped to 0-2 after a 17-0 loss Thursday night at La Canada. Offensive lineman Chris Salgado missed the game with a foot injury.

“We didn’t have any protection. Our quarterback (Josh Mendoza) was sacked seven times. But if we can get Salgado back this week that will improve our offensive line.”

Torres is in his first season as coach of the Moors after taking over for long time HC Gil Ruedaflores who stepped down.

Ochoa is confident the Moors will bounce back.

“The kids have been working really hard. We have a lot of players going both ways. It’s not going to be easy but we’ll just take it one a game at a time and get ready for Temple City,” Ochoa added.
