Apaches Take Down Warriors

(Arcadia) – Mateo Ingersoll scored 21 points and Noa Eteuati Edwards added 17 to lead Arcadia to a 64-52 win over St. Pius X-St. Matthias Monday night at Arcadia High.

The Apaches were down 16-13 after the first quarter as Dayvian Gates with six points and Dominic Gallardo added five to lead St. Pius to the three-point advantage. But Arcadia got rolling in the second quarter.

The Apaches outscored the Warriors 17-7 in the second to take a seven-point lead into the half. Edwards and Ingersoll each had five in the quarter and Nick Wallace and Alex Mazakiain both knocked down threes.

Arcadia continued the momentum in the third quarter with Ingersoll and Edwards again leading the way. Ingersoll was able to get free in the lane and Edwards buried another one from beyond the arc as Arcadia increased the lead to 12 at 48-36 as the third quarter came to an end.

St. Pius fouled in the fourth quarter in an attempt to get back in it but the Apaches hit seven of nine from the free throw line to salt the game away. Ingersoll had 10 points in the final frame and Edwards nailed three free throws.

Ingersoll and Edwards combined for 38 but Arcadia also had contributions from Mazakiain who scored eight points and Nick Wallace Jr. who added six- both from three-point land. Owen Eteuati-Edwards scored five.

For St. Pius X Gates led the way with 21 points, Darrellreon Morris had 14 and Gallardo finished with 13.

Arcadia is off to a good start improving to 4-1 on the season while the Warriors dropped to 2-2.
