@ Importance of Scheduling: I’m not a fan of forfeits, either, whether they’re strategic in nature or otherwise. And, yes, Mark Keppel’s football program has a long way to go.
In the meantime, I hope that Alhambra can build on the progress that it made last year in going 6-6.
By the way, this season will be only the second time that Alhambra hasn’t played Keppel in football since Keppel fielded its first varsity team in 1940. The only other time the teams didn’t play was during the pandemic season of 2020-21.

Hmmmm I wonder how La Serna gets kids to go running the wing T????
I watched the Schurr vs La Serna game… it was like watching Tyson fight a random lightweight. Schurr isn’t great, they lack speed, strength, and offensive creativity. I haven’t seen a running back go into a 3 point stance since the early 1980’s. Defensively they are okay, La Serna was just a bit too much for them.
If they don’t adapt, they will lose its young class and fall into obscurity.

Is Schurr horrible? I wouldn’t say they are great but definitely not horrible. They are extremely young, 17 of their 22 starting spots are manned by underclassmen who while talented are very raw. The squad is very light as well with under 40 on the team which leads to either very tired starters on special teams or more inexperienced players at those key spots.
They also have a brutal schedule which magnifies their youth, 6 of their opponents this year are on this websites top 12 so yeah it’s gonna look horrible at times. But this team has not lost its focus and will continue to grow and get better each week. Glad to have you watching, we appreciate all the hate and all the love they both serve a purpose in this world.
Nah schurr is horrible stop it. They played up last year and at least competed. This year its like men amongst boys.

Keppel will have another victory. They have Torres on the schedule – Torres had no team year ; 2024, Torres was 0-9 on field and was running clocked in every game -against the weakest City section competition. So rest assured they’ll win another game .
They discovered the soft underbelly of City schools ; ten years ago they wouldn’t have scheduled these teams . Winning these games doesn’t mean they are better – they just finally found a more challenged program . They forfeited a game vs Centennial- a D14 team that hasn’t been to playoffs or had winning record in a decade to save themselves for the likes of Mendez. This was a weenie move devoid of sportsmanship! They signed a contract ! How would Keppel feel if Mendez forfeited that game ???
I saw Workman play v Mountain View . They controlled much of the game before losing culture took hold and they gave the game away . If Keppel truly better , they would beat a woebegone Workman program , right ? I’ve got pastrami at Hat on winless Workman vs Keppel….:

Basically SP got what they paid for NOTHING what an embarrassment to the program. If they lose to Whittier there will be trouble for sure,
yep if st paul loses to whittier it is a very terrible experience for the swordsman after losing their only hope! Coach muschetti , but a huge bunch of his haters/ or people that criticized him for being a good coach, just might be all of you haters and criticizers’ wonder coach if it happens
The few among us who are urging patience in the case of Montoya need to come clean about just how long they are going to give this kid to show a spark of life. Is two years enough? Three, four, maybe six years? With all the cards on the table, we can either turn down the heat on young Austin, or prepare to barbeque the guy in a few more weeks.
A bit of perspective is needed. It’s well known that walk-on coaches, especially those who are paid a pittance, are rarely–if ever–successful. That’s why I was skeptical about this hire from day one. Still, I’m willing to believe Montoya when he says he is comfortable having to prove himself, so we’ll wait and see if there is any sign of life in his charges during the remainder of the season. Stranger things have happened.
Fundamentally speaking, however, it’s pretty clear that the better choice for St Paul would have been Lorenzo Hernandez, the man Whittier landed. Whittier, in turn, would have done just fine toiling under the watch of the beginner Montoya. Funny how things don’t always work out right.
So blame it on Moshetti and give it three or four years. That take will certainly ease the St Paul fans. I mean he did schedule Whittier right? You got to give him credit for that one.
My Oilers again with the shameful defensive performance. Our kids deserve better defensive coaching than they’re receiving right now. We can’t make an adjustment to save our lives. Kudos to our offense for keeping us in the game!
I didn’t think Montoya was a great hire, BUT these 2 losses would have happened if you had Marion Ancich coaching these Swordsmen. Moschetti did his usual over scheduling and set this guy up for failure knowing darn well the cupboard was already pretty bare. SP will beat Whittier with relative ease but they’ll still struggle this year. They’ll go 2-8 or 4-6 at best just like they would be no matter who the coach is with this schedule. Be patient with Montoya while he still gets settled in.
@ Low Profile: I’m aware of the fact that Mendez is not very good at football, but this one win for Keppel is an improvement on its typical season of 0-9 or 0-10. Any additional victories this season could be a sign of actual progress for the Aztecs.
St.paul is a joke program,with these Pop warner coaches.What did head coach everdo at Schur high.No cif titles .Why waste money at this horrible program when you can LS or Downey and het into college.Previous coach who was 10xs more qualified couldn’t here you hire JV coaches.
Good news is that SP scored 12 points. An average of 6 per game. Bad news is that they’ve given up 132 points with an average of 66 points. Going to be a long season. Maybe they should’ve hired a home grown guy like Avina or even given a Willig a shot. Horrible decisions are starting at the top… And trickling down to the kids.
St Paul sure did catch something in a bottle, but it’s the stuff causing discomfort during a bout of constipation.
According to St Paul insiders many alums and admins wanted to hire a respected HC but would not offer the normal package. The hirers insisted on the cheaper route thinking they might catch lightning in a bottle with a walk on.

I’m officially proclaiming the St Paul-Whittier clash as the game of the week. Austin Montoya’s group looks weak on defense, whereas Lorenzo Hernandez’s team has exploded offensively. I am entirely aware of SP’s daunting schedule compared with that of Whittier, but all things considered, Whittier-SP is going to be very competitive, and the upstart Cardinals just might hand the Swords their third consecutive loss.
St. Paul is horrible their getting their but kicked. I understand Amat and MV are good but I don’t think they’ve ever got a straight butt kicking like this. I think those pathetic coaches are scared their days are short.
St Paul is absolutely terrible they put up 12 points t when MV’s 3rd string was in. They can’t do anything. The coaching staff looks stupid on the side lines they have no answers. I’m an alumni their days are numbered this is bad. All those parents paying for this very sad.
Went to check out the new ranch stadium for the 1st time, I have to say it is one of the better venues to watch high school football, compact, great crowd, that court yard area with grass, snack bar all that is a great little hangout area. Great Friday Night atmosphere, packed house. Now as far as the game, Defensively El Rancho is super good, Santa Fe could not get anything going, offensively ER was not crisp, I would say 4 red zone drives ended in 0 points and that might be a problem. Truly could’ve been a 40 point win ER could not finish them off, credit to SF for hanging in there. ER has a tough slate of games coming up, West Covina, Los Altos, La Mirada are some tough area games.
@Ron , the win is more a matter of strategic scheduling than program development . It’s very hard to lose to Mendez ; Bassett scored on first two plays from scrimmage and could have named the score v Mendez .

I had to rub my eyes and clean my glasses. Keppel finally got a W!!! I have no ties to Keppel, but I know the struggles that program has had since the 80’s. Good for them.
That Keppel win should suffice to put the Aztecs into the playoffs. By the way, is Aztec one of the culturally forbidden names these days?
It’s beginning to look like even money on the Whittier-St Paul clash. God help Montoya if he loses that one.
