(El Monte) – The South Spartans ruined Arroyo’s home opener Thursday evening defeating the Knights 33-10 in front of a vocal home crowd at B.L. Bergstrom Stadium.

The Spartans placed their hopes on the shoulders of Senior running Chris Noubi and he was able to live up to the assignment. Noubi carried the ball 19 times for 199 yards, three touchdowns and the successful conversion of a two-point attempt. In short, he accounted for 20 of South’s 33 points.

South scored its first points of the contest in the first quarter when Noubi scored on a 64-yard run. The PAT was unsuccessful making the score 6-0 with 6:55 remaining in the opening quarter.

Arroyo cut the lead in half, courtesy of a 20-yard Paxton Parps field goal. This made the score 6-3 as the first quarter ended.

Arroyo took the lead in the second period when quarterback Oscar Lopez connected with wide receiver Nick Amparo for a 12-yard touchdown. Parps added the PAT, making the score 10-6 with 7:12 remaining in the opening half.

South answered with a score of their own as quarterback Ryan Dempster found receiver Denver Schneider for a 20-yard score. Travis Finley added the PAT, making the score 13-10 at halftime.

South added two more scores in the third. The first score coming as Noubi crossed the goal line for the second time on a 40-yard dash. The extra point was good to make it 19-0 with 10:13 remaining period.

The second score was the result of a second Dempster connection, this time to Nathan Kerekes, for a 57-yard catch and run. Noubi ran in the two-point conversion and it was 27-10, with one quarter to play.

The Spartans increased the lead in the fourth when Noubi logged his third touchdown…an eight-yard scoring blast. The extra point failed as the final score was 33-10 as the contest came to a close.

The Knights’ next contest is a road trip to Katella next Friday where they will face the…Knights. South will travel to El Segundo to meet the Eagles.
