1. The New York Yankees activated Aaron Judge from the injured list Monday night. Judge has been out for more than three months with a fractured rib.
2. The New York Giants released wide receiver Darius Slayton Monday. Slayton, who was the Giants most tenured player, was with the team for seven seasons.
3. The Atlanta Falcons named Tua Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback.
4. SMU beat Florida State 27-24 Monday night in the season opener for both teams.
5. Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl left guard Tyler Smith will be out for at least four games after he undergoes surgery on his left thumb Tuesday.
6. The NFL season kicks off Wednesday with Seattle at New England at 5:20 PT on NBC. The Rams will play the San Francisco 49ers Thursday at 5:35 PM in Australia.
7. On this day in 1965 Bert Campaneris of the Kansas City A’s plays all nine positions in a game.
8. New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole turns 36 today.
