Keppel has been outscored 124-0 in its first two games. It’s time to pull the plug. Continue to practice, get more kids out, get them in the weight room and get ready for next year.
The Aztecs don’t necessarily have to drop the program. Just discontinue it for this season and then reevaluate it for 2023. At this point it’s about player’s safety. Hoover beat them 70-0. Yes, the same Hoover team that had dropped the program for a year a couple of years ago. That tells you the state of the current Keppel team. Gabrielino canceled its game last week with San Gabriel due to a lack of players. Keppel needs to do the same for the season before someone gets seriously hurt.

I knew he could sling it. I’ve seen him doing that since he was a freshman at La Salle. But I didn’t know Charter Oak quarterback Richie Munoz could pull the ball down and run like that. Dude was terrific last week in a 38-24 win over Northview. The Chargers got a good one. Munoz is the real deal. It also helps to have plenty of weapons to choose from.
The Chargers however, like every football team in America, aren’t perfect. Charter Oak DC LaVar Arrington kept repeating on the sidelines last week as the game was winding down that this was Northview’s third game. “This is their third game, this is their third game!” Arrington said. “This is our first!”
Actually Coach it was the Vikings second game. They played Zero week and then Week 1. It wasn’t anybody’s third game. And in their second game they rushed for over 300 yards against your defense. You’ve brought an energy to the team and the defense was flying around at times. But you might want to address that.

I haven’t posted a Top 10 yet. I’m still trying to figure out how to compile an area Top 10 that doesn’t include a Division 2 team with a Division 12 team. Maybe a Top 10 for each Division? But if I did I wouldn’t have Pasadena ahead of Monrovia. Monrovia beat a good Bonita team on the road and then blew out Arcadia. Pasadena lost to La Serna, who tuned the ball over six times, before righting the ship against Glendora. The Twittter keyboard Warriors seem to disagree. We’ll find out more Thursday night as Monrovia travels to El Rancho and Pasadena is at Damien. But right now, on Wednesday night, Monrovia gets the nod.

Friday Night Lights? There are 12 games on Thursday night this week. Along with the two just mentioned, Los Osos is at La Serna and Bonita travels to La Salle. Temple City will host Alhambra. Can you imagine if Temple City won that game?

Covina fired its OC Tuesday after just one game. There had to be more to it then the play calling in the 16-14 loss to South Hills last week. I mean, you usually give a coordinator more than one game. Although sending Jake Duronslet on a quarterback sneak on a fourth and four on Covina’s last offensive play of the game was strange…very strange.

Arroyo losing its first two games isn’t the end of the world. The Knights went 10-0 last year, were placed in a higher division and fell in the first round. As Herm Edwards said “You play to win the game!” and you do. But in High School football in 2022, with the divisions to be decided at the end of the season, if you lose a couple of non-league games it’s…well…it’s not the end of the world.
Arroyo will host Schurr Friday night. These two teams couldn’t be more evenly matched. They’re both 0-2 and they both have lost a game in the last few seconds. Also in the other loss both teams were blown out – Schurr by South Torrance and Arroyo by Kaiser. Who wins? I took Schurr but a coin flip would probably be just as effective. Don’t try to beat the traffic. It could be decided on the final play.
Note: All of Arroyo’s home games this year will be at B.L. Bergstrom Stadium. A planned remodel in the fall that would have had the Knights on the road for every game has been delayed until after the season.

Another Thursday night game that has been flying under the radar is St. Pius X -St. Matthais at St. Paul. Both are coming in at 2-0 and have next level quarterbacks. Dieter Barr of St. Pius X and Andrew Maushardt at St. Paul should be throwing it all over the lot. If you can’t wait until Friday night and need some Thursday night action make the trek out to St Paul. And if you run into St. Paul assistant coach Donald Bernard remind him he still owes me a Q & A.

CO Fan – ding, ding, ding! You hit the nail on the head! Dude had zero clue how to stop a pretty basic run game with zero threat of the pass. CO’s athletes were far superior to Northview, but zero adjustment form the DC was embarrassing lol. CO is in trouble.
@ED. Any chance you can list up to date cancellations of games due to heat?
I bet Roger Lehigh would have known what game it was. Probably would have made adjustments to stop the run too. All due respect to LaVar as a player, but his coaching ability is very suspect! Has he won anywhere as a coach? Seriously don’t know so if anyone does please post when and where. Thanks!
Sad to see how football, both youth and high school has slowly eroded in the SGV.
Always a good idea for a new coach to lower expectations. Covina coach took the other route.
What does the North view lost say about Muir defense?
What does Covina football think this is the NFL firing a coach one game into the season
