Beatty Returns to Azusa Pacific

(Azusa) – Bo Beatty, an Azusa Pacific alum, former linebacker and longtime assistant has returned to the school as Assistant Head Coach and Linebackers coach.

Beatty will be on A.J. Parnell’s staff. Azusa Pacific shut down the football program in 2020 but announced this year that football will return in 2026 at the Division 3 level with Parnell as head coach.

Beatty played at APU in 1992 and ’93 starting in 12 of 18 games under Hall of Fame head coach Jim Millhon.

After graduating from Azusa Pacific in 1994, Beatty began his coaching career joining Vic Shealy’s staff in 1995. While coaching the linebackers he helped mold the Cougars defense and the linebacking crew into a formidable unit. Beatty helped coach the Cougars to a NAIA national championship season in 1998.

He was coaching under head coach Peter Shinnick through 1999 before stepping away in 2000 to spend time with his family.

He returned for coaching stints in 2006–07 and again in 2009-10 to help guide a solid defensive unit that produced nine All-GNAC selections.

Beatty has spent the past several years as a co-head coach with Steve Bogan at Bonita High School.

The Cougars season is set to kick off in September 2026.
