It’s Official: Villasenor to Muir

(Pasadena) – Former Nogales head coach Matt Villasenor has been named the new head football coach at Muir Athletic Director Alfredo Resendiz confirmed Wednesday.

The hiring was first reported by Fred Robledo of SGVN Sports early Wednesday. Villasenor led Nogales to an overall record of 13-9 over the last two seasons and a Montview League title this past year. The Nobles appeared in the CIF playoffs both years but fell in the first round.

Villasenor has had previous stops at Sierra Vista as co-head coach and at Bishop Amat as an assistant in 2022.

Muir went 9-2 last year and won the Pacific League title under Lance Mitchell, who left to take over as the head coach at St. Francis.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to coach at Muir. To coach at a place where Jackie Robinson played, to have games at the Rose Bowl, it’s super exciting for me. I just want the community to know that I’m ready to get to work. I’m going to pour my blood, sweat and tears into this. There is a long tradition of being great at Muir, and I want to build on that. I think I bring a lot to the table. Let’s get to work,” Villasenor said.

“I’m going to work tirelessly to convince our kids to stay home. This is Muir, it’s a special place. We have to convince the kids to stay in Pasadena before the private schools poach them. And not just the private schools, but the public schools too. We need to let everyone know the pipeline to those schools is closed. We’re going to shut it down,” Villasenor added.
