Dons Win Crosstown Clash

(Baldwin Park) – Sierra Vista outscored Baldwin Park 31-17 in the second half and pulled away to a 58-37 win over city rival Baldwin Park Wednesday night at Baldwin Park High.

The Dons only led by two after the first quarter and increased it to seven at 27-20 at the half. Donovan Reyes and Ethan Guevara each had seven points in the first half for Sierra Vista to lead the way. Tevita Ngaluola contributed six.

Robert Gallardo scored seven for Baldwin Park and Andy Flores scored five as the Braves tried to keep pace.

The Dons opened it up in the third quarter. Isaiah Aguayo hit a pair of threes as Sierra Vista jumped out to a 17-point lead. Aguayo scored eight in the quarter and the Dons held the Braves to just seven in the third and extended the lead to 14.

The Dons cruised through the final frame and rolled to the 21-point victory. Guevara led all scorers with 15 points and Aguayo was also in double figures with 12 for Sierra Vista. Peter Abir had nine and Reyes added eight.

For Baldwin Park Gallard and Flores both finished in double figures. Flores had 14 and Gallardo, with two from long distance, scored 12.

Sierra Vista improved to 14-10 with the victory and 5-1 in the Montview League. Baldwin Park fell to 15-8 and 2-4.
