High School Top 20: Mid-Valley Division

L-R: Sam Torres, Anthony Flores, Steven Rivera and Anthony Miller. Rivera was injured but the Knights survived to remain at number 3

Whittier Christian stays on top with its third consecutive big victory. Monrovia gets back on track by derailing Arcadia. Arroyo survived, Azusa rolled. San Dimas fell but that happens a lot when you play Rancho Cucamonga.

Covina looks like world beaters- we’ll know a lot more when Valle Vista league play starts. Speaking of the V-Vista, Pomona keeps moving on up.

1. Whittier Christian (3-0): 33 more points for Stephen Anderson and company.

2. Monrovia (1-1): Wildcats restored order against Arcadia.

3. Arroyo (3-0): Eddie Federico to the rescue.

4. Azusa (2-0): Jose Nunez does everything except chalk the field.

5. San Dimas (1-2): Close loss to Rancho Cucamonga can only breed confidence.

6. Covina (3-0): Colts barely break a sweat in dismissing El Monte.

7. La Canada (2-0): Sandhu and Spartans run over Glendale.

8. San Marino (2-0): Titans outscore opponents 83-6 in first two games.

9. Schurr (0-2): Spartans travel to El Toro this week. Where’s El Toro?

10. Pomona (3-0): Win streak in jeopardy this week at Chino Hills.

11. Rosemead (1-1): Coach Matt Koffler finds out how good Michael Ball is.

12. Baldwin Park (0-3): Braves wondering when league play starts.

13. Wilson (1-1): All weapons on display as Wildcats grab the wheel.

14. La Puente (2-0): Another 30 points plus for Warriors.

15. Village Christian (2-1): Crusaders awesome against Antelope Valley

16. Maranatha (2-1): Minutemen put 56 on Santa Maria.

17. South Pasadena (2-0): Tigers hold off Hoover. Can they compete in Rio?

18. Bell Gardens (1-1): Nice bounce back against El Rancho.

19. San Gabriel (0-3): Mats give B-Bank a scare.

20. Sierra Vista (2-0): Dons could be 4-0 when league starts.

Number of teams represented in each league: Valle Vista 5, Rio Hondo 4, Olympic 3, MVL 2, Montview 3, Almont 3

Note: Bell Gardens jumped back into the Top 20 with a win over a solid El Rancho team. Sierra Vista slid into the 20 spot with its second straight victory. El Monte and Workman dropped out of the poll after one sided losses to Covina and South El Monte respectively. Let the arguments begin.
