Northwest Division Top Ten: 10/14/2015

By Joe Torosian

Mission Prep keeps getting better and the whole bottom half of the Top Ten is solid, but the top teams are at a completely different level. Next week’s Linfield Christian and Notre Dame/Riverside game will be at the least a semifinal preview if not a Northwest finals preview. Nipomo is not finished yet.

1.) Linfield Christian (1-0, 6-0): The Lions have not missed the playoffs since 2006.

2.) Notre Dame/Riverside (1-0, 6-0): Good defense? NDR has allowed only 40 points through six games this season.

3.) Twentynine Palms (2-0, 6-0): 29ers quarterback Jimmy Shragge threw his first pick last week. His passer rating dropped to 136.5 and he now has only 22 touchdown passes against one interception.

4.) Mission Prep (1-0, 4-2): Brayden Corona has rushed for 721 yards and eight touchdowns.

5.) Nipomo (1-0, 3-4): Titans middle linebacker Terry Wambolt has 86 tackles and two sacks this season. A year ago he was in on 170 tackles.

6.) Ontario Christian (5-1): The Knights have completed 49 passes as a team. Grayson Kline has caught 23 of them for four touchdowns.

7.) Bishop Montgomery (5-1): Wide receiver Bernard Amofa is averaging 19 yards per catch (31-receptions for 590 yards) and has scored five times.

8.) Templeton (0-1, 4-3): Fate is in their hands, but need to beat Nipomo on October 30th or they could up with a long bus ride to the desert in November.

9.) Valley Christian (1-0, 5-2): Defensive back RJ Van kampen is tied for the Northwest lead in interceptions with seven. (Maranatha’s Dexter Myers has seven.)

10.) Rancho Mirage (2-1, 5-2): In just their second year, the Rattlers are primed to make the playoffs.
