(Pasadena, Ca) After an even contest in the first half, the Pasadena Bulldogs rushing attack received no answer in the second half in a 33-16 win over the La Salle Lancers.

The first series was almost all Andreece Brown, as he had runs of 8, 1, 4 and busted a long one for 21- yards. On the next play, Brown fumbled and the Lancers recovered on their own 14.

After a formation shift at the line of scrimmage, Christopher Alvarado lined up at quarterback and ran for a 10 yards, followed by a 4-yard run. Antoine Peterson III then broke multiple tackles on a toss play for gain of 18. Quarterback Michael Novell connected with Bryce Shaw on a 32-yard strike to put the Lancers in scoring distance.  A few plays later, Peterson broke free for a 17 -ard touchdown which was called back due to a holding penalty.  The Lancers had to settle for a 40-yard field goal by Ethan Anabel with 3:01 left in the first quarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, Pasadena had an 80-yard touchdown return called back because of a holding penalty. Starting at their own 38, the Bulldogs continued their rushing attack with Cleo Bates.  First he busted  loose for 39-yards to put Pasadena at the Lancer 23.  A few moments later, Bates found himself in the end zone on a 3-yard run up the middle with 11:11 left in the second quarter. The extra point was no good.

Getting the ball back on its own 14, La Salle’s offense couldn’t produce and had to punt. Pasadena got the possession and continued to run the ball on the Lancers. Brown capped off the drive with a 3-yard touchdown with the extra point good bringing the score 13-3 Pasadena with 2:09 left in the half.

La Salle got the ball on its own 27 and again couldn’t move the ball.  However, on third and long Novell’s pass was incomplete but a roughing the passer penalty gave the offense new life. Novell found Shaw again for a 17-yard gain. After an incomplete pass, Isreal Lacy took an outside handoff, made a few cutbacks and ran 30 yards for a score to make it 13-10 Pasadena with 18 seconds left in the half.

Pasadena continued to run the ball down the throats of La Salle in the second half.  The Lancers had no answer for the tandem of Brown and Bates.

“We just wanted to run and pound the ball on them tonight” said Bulldogs Head Coach Randy Horton. Brown finished with 138 yard on 24 rushes and 4 touchdowns while Bates finished with 98 yards on 11 carries.

The Lancers offense continued to struggle. Neither the running game nor passing game seem to work for them. Novell went 5 for 12 for 63 yards before being removed from the game after an interception.

“We had a few injuries to a couple key guys that we never really overcame,” said La Salle Coach Antonie Peterson. To try and generate some offense, Will Harrity came in at quarterback and put on an impressive show, going 5 for 7 for 83 yards and touchdown, connecting with Isreal Lacy on a 33-yard pass.

The Bulldogs never went to their passing game. Brandon Cox finished 2 for 5 for 18 yards, but most of his damage was on the ground with 65 yards on 6 rushes.

Kishon Sanders went out with in an injury in the first half and never returned. “It was really tough losing him,” Peterson said.  “He really wanted to play but we thought it was more important to have him later than to risk it getting worse tonight.”
