Gabrielino and Monrovia wrapped up league titles Thursday in the Mission Valley and Rio Hondo respectively. The Eagles scored two runs in the fifth and added two more sixth to knock off South El Monte 4-1.
Freshman Angel Acosta struck out 13 while throwing a complete game and also went two for three at the plate including a two run double in the decisive fifth. Another freshman, Brendan Campbell went three for three and scored a run.
It was the third consecutive MVL crown for Gabrielino.
Monrovia rolled a seven in the first inning and never looked back in a 12-1 rout of South Pasadena. Robert Nakamura went four for five with two runs scored and Nick Bueno had three hits and scored a run. Justin De La Nuez went three for five and drove in three runs.
It was the fifth straight victory for Monrovia and the Cats also reeled off seven of their last eight.

Notes: The top three teams in league will quailfy for playoffs. La Canada, which finshed fourth in the Rio Hondo, will petetion CIF for a playoff berth. Arroyo was 8-5 heading into Thursday’s finale at Rosemead. Final score has not yet been reported.
