(El Segundo) – Fresh off a 27-7 victory over the Houston Texans Thursday night in the first preseason game the Chargers were out Saturday for another day at camp at The Bolt in El Segundo.
RJ Mickens, Derwin James and Elijah Molden all looked good Saturday. Molden had a pick.
This was the last Saturday in camp as the Chargers will break camp Tuesday and then face the San Francisco 49ers Thursday night at SoFi Stadium in their second preseason game.
Head Coach Jim Harbaugh likes what he sees so far.
The defense outplayed the offense for the better part of the day on Saturday. Elijah Modlen picked off backup quarterback Trey Lance after the Chargers had moved the ball down the field to halt a drive. Trey Dye also had a nice deflection of a Justin Herbert pass to slow down the offense. Khalil Mack had a sack of Herbert on another defensive play. Lander Barton and Tuli Tuipuloto looked good for the Chargers up front as well.
Offensive tackle Rashawn Slater did not practice Saturday but head coach Jim Harbaugh wasn’t concerned. “He’s just working through something but I’m not worried about it,” Harbaugh said.
Harbaugh was happy with the way the backup quarterbacks played Thursday against Houston. Trey Lance completed 12 of 20 for 164 yards and an interception while DJ Uiagalelei was 6 for 9 for 120 yards and a touchdown.
“I thought they did really well. The coaching that they have had showed up and they took that to the field particulary with timing and footwork,” Harbaugh added.
Chargers running into Thursday night clash with the 49ers.
The Chargers and 49ers are scheduled to kick off at 7:00 PM Thursday night at SoFi.
