Joe Torosian

Good Evening!

No-Hitter or no no-hitter, I still think Randy Moss going back to Minnesota is a bigger deal.

Long term, nice deal for the Patriots…In the short, I don’t know. Glad I don’t own Tom Brady in my fantasy league.

***

Last Add Baseball: Former Temple City ace Ryan Tucker is now a member of the Texas Rangers…Good move…You can only take so much of Florida…

***

Muir-Arcadia this week feels like a playoff game to me.

***

Come on! No votes for Covina’s Billy Livingtson in our poll?

***

Nice to see former El Monte DB Fernando Noriega doing well at Citrus.

***

I’m with Villathedevil on this one, I probably would have taken Burbank’s Adam Colman over Rowland’s Michael Ball…Probably because I’ve seen more of Colman…

***

Note to Mt.View Faithful: With all the stirring going on about the Vikes being for real and not being for real…you better hope Saturday’s game against Bell-Jeff is competitive or a hard rain is going to fall.

***

I don’t want to be Manny Maudlin here, but Walnut needs more weapons. Including a running game to ease the burden on Brandon Roach.

***

The Mid: “So Coach do you miss it?”

Longtime area HC Leon Ward: “Only on Friday night’s. Erick Escamilla says the same thing.”

***

Note to Schools: Talking to some HC’s this week…and I guess this should be for the boosters as well…but take care of your coaches… In this economic climate a good coach is gold…literal gold.

***

I like San Dimas over Baldwin Park…but don’t sell the Braves short. SD has not played anywhere near last season’s level and BP has some momentum.

With all of the exploits of its ground game the first month of the season, the Sierra Vista defense has done a solid job. The Dons unit is led by senior linebacker William Trujillo, who leads the team in tackles and has recorded two sacks.

SV has only allowed 52-points in four games.

***

Since we’re talking defense consideration needs to be given to Alhambra linebacker George Gonzalez.

He’s not the first “Bad Dude” linebacker the Moors have had.

On this date in 1989 Schurr’s Joel Luna kicked a 26-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining to give the Spartans a 16-13 victory over Temple City at Montebello High School.

The game winning drive was highlighted by Schurr quarterback Jay Macias’ clutch 19-yard completion to David Hernandez on fourth and nine with 44-seconds remaining.

With three seconds left the Rams took one last big gasp. Quarterback Terry Fesler hit Chris Antonio at his own 45, who went to work. Antonio broke two tackles, cut across midfield and eluded five more Spartan defenders before Schurr’s Luis Urbina kocked him out of bounds at the 7-yard line to finish the game.

On this same date in 1972 Bonita’s Don Rees scored on an 8-yard with three minutes remaining to give the Bearcats a 14-10 victory over Gladstone.

At Los Altos Binky  Benton scored two touchdowns and Robert Hertel went 76-yards to Steve Hill as the Conquerors overcame two Bob Trudeau scoring runs (25 & 24-yards) and West Covina 21-14.

And at Arcadia Scott Butler scored on a 53-yard run, John Schumacher added a pair of field goals (27 & 33-yards) as the Apaches beat Bishop Amat 13-0. The loss snapped the Lancers 19-game winning streak.

Butler finished with 146 yards on 17-carries, but it was the Arcadia defense led by Schumacher, Tim Larkin, and Dave Weckerly that frusted the Amat offense.

Lancer quarterback Mike Garcia went just 4 of 17 and was picked off by Steve Holman and Ned Vessey.

Stay thirsty my friends…
