“Hey we have a lot of ground to cover, but we’re going to be okay,” said new Wilson head coach Brian Zavala.

The longtime assistant from El Rancho, Rosemead, and Northview is getting his first crack at HC as he rebuilds

the Wilson football program.

“Right now we’re trying to get the players to understand how we do things, it takes time to create the new attitude.”

The Wildcats were 1-9 on the field in 2008, 0-10 after their lone victory was forfeited to Glenn. The Tim Gilmore era is over, Zavala is the third coach

in three years, and they reside in none too friendly Miramonte featuring Charter Oak, Diamond Ranch, Bonita, and Los Altos.

“Right now we have about 45, we’re young but our future is bright.”

One player Zavala has warmed to immediately is soon-to-be senior Ray Garcia, because of his work ethic and desire.

“The administration has been positive, people are feeling upbeat,” said Zavala. “We’ve got great equipment, an excellent weight room, and outstanding practice fields.”

Zavala, a TC Alum, will bring the tradition of Wednesday night practices under the lights to Wilson this fall.

“We want to establish tradition and build, they really want us to do well here.
