Former Panther Chavez Stable after Accident

(Rosemead) Cesar Chavez, an integral part of the 2008 Rosemead team that advanced to the CIF Mid-Valley Division Championship game, is stable and in an area hospital after a motorcycle accident two weeks ago.

Chavez played strong safety and fullback for that team that knocked off Monrovia in the Semis before falling to Paraclete in the Final game.

Chavez has been in intensive care since the accident but there has been some steady improvement. At this week’s homecoming game against Gabrielino, there will be a donation basket for those who want to help the Chavez family with some of the medical costs.

As of Wednesday night, Chavez’ was improving according to Rosemead Coach Matt Koffler.

“Cesar is getting better every day. He is in stable condition. We will dedicate the rest of the season to him and hopefully our players will have the passion for football just like he did,” Koffler said.
