M-Town Beat Down; 57-0

(Pasadena) – Monrovia scored touchdowns on it’s first five plays from scrimmage on its way to a 57-0 drubbing of Blair Thursday night at Muir High School.

The Wildcats dominated the Rio Hondo League opener running out to a 50-0 halftime lead. The game was played on a running clock the entire second half. 

Nick Bueno scored twice on the ground and one on a reception from back up quarterback George Frazier. He scored twice in the first quarter on runs of 63 and 68 yards. In the second quarter he lined up wide and ran a corner route and hauled in a 35 yard strike from Frazier.

On Monrovia’s first play from scrimmage Jay Henderson took a handoff on a reverse and split the Blair defense for a 35 yard touchdown. the Wildcats immediately got the ball back and Bueno ripped off a 68 yard score again on the first play from scrimmage. 

Anthony Craft caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Bueno on the first play of the next series followed by the 63 yard TD jaunt by Bueno. Luke Williams ended the first quarter onslaught with a 35 yard catch and carry as Bueno again delivered the throw.

Oh yeah and after the third touchdown Kenny Machi blocked a Blair punt out of the end zone for a safety.   

Monrovia finally needed more than one play to score as Christian Blanco raced into the end zone from 18 yards out on the second play of the possession early in the second quarter. Frazier then hit Bueno for the score to make it 50-0 at the half. 

The second half scooted by as both coaches agreed to play with a running clock.

The Cats added one more on a 20 yard run by Cade Schultz.  

Blair meanwhile never advanced past the 50 yard line.

“We came out and we executed. Our offense looked good and our defense played well,” said Monrovia Coach Ryan Maddox. “With league play beginning we’re looking at this as a new season. We’re now going to get ready for a tough opponent next week in San Marino.”

Bueno had three carries for 153 yards and two touchdowns. He caught a 35 yard touchdown pass and completed two passes for 73 yards and a pair of scores.
