El Monte HC Joel Sanchez & South El Monte HC Ray Hernandez in a serious moment during Griffin Bowl festivities Thursday night...Note the time traveller behind Hernandez' left shoulder... (pics from the event will be posted Sunday afternoon)

Good Afternoon!

Five touchdown passes from your quarterback is nice…which is what El Monte got from Manuel Santa Cruz in its big win over South El Monte last night…but I prefer to think the Lions good forturne was procured when HC Joel Sanchez gave me a cheeseburger at Thursday night’s barbeque.

You can’t beat that kind of karma…

Okay, Important Safety Tip: Don’t schedule Arroyo on Jim Singiser’s birthday. His Arroyo Baldness turned 42 on Friday and celebrated with a 49-6 victory over Gabrielino. In 2005 he celebrated with a 37-0 win over the Eagles…and in 2004 he defeated El Monte 42-7…That’s a combined 128 points for and only 13 against…

We’ve seen “The Wildcat”, “The Wild Horses”, …even “The Wild Knight” at Arroyo this year when Anthony Miller took snaps at center…but last night we saw something new.

After Andy Guerrero went down at the end of the first half against Bell Gardens and with Erik Alvarez injured the previous week, San Gabriel HC Jude Oliva was forced to put Arthur Brown at quarterback.

Oliva called it “The Arthur Brown Experiment”, but a prominent fan on the sideline labeled it; “The Wild Chollo”…

My lips are sealed but the fan’s initials are C.H…

“I’ve never seen a game where we completely out hit our opponent and lost,” said Baldwin Park assistant coach Wardell Crutchfield Jr. on Friday afternoon about the previous week’s loss to Covina…

The Braves did some hitting last night on Wilson…and this time came away with a big victory.

You gotta love BP…at 3-5 they are high wire act…

Nicknames are a dangerous thing at SG…especially after the “CornerBlacks” controversey in 2005…

Just for illumination about how quick things can turn…When the national anthem was played last night before the Diamond Ranch-Los Altos game I counted 70 people in the stands on the visitors side. On the home side, the Conquerors side, I counted 50…SAY WHAT! …I said 50…

Last Add Bell Gardens: Friday’s 37-35 victory at “Keith Jones Stadium” was its first since 2006 over the Matadors…Or BG’s first victory over the Mats in the Post-Isaac Valdez Era…

The San Gabriel quarterback in 2006 was current Mid Valley rock star Saile Ramirez

“I didn’t want to give you the satisfaction while we were on the air,” said Andy Villathedevil at 1:30 A.M. “But Bonita came up short three times in short and less than a yard situations tonight.”

San Gabriel One More Time: After seven years I met the ScanWife…she really does it exist…The ScanMan married up…

Diamond Ranch may have been without Cesar Carrillo, Chase Price, HC Roddy Layton and half the coaching staff last night…but it seemed to have little effect on the field. Panthers stud Jacoby Carter when 39-yards to paydirt on his team’s first play from scrimmage.

D-Ranch won 48-14

Last Add ScanWife: In regards to those cookies, easy on the chocolate chip, heavy on the macademia nuts…

***

Last Add Los Altos: The Conquerors have now lost 12 in a row, but…If you’ve seen quarterback Shane Virnala throw the ball you have to have hope…He’s only a junior and he has good size for a prep football triggerman…

Note to Los Altos Fans, Friends, Boosters, Alumni, Administration, and All Concerned: You need to worry less about coaching, transfers, and past glory…and instead concentrate all efforts to catch a Midnight Express out of Southeast Division.

I thought the Crescenta Valley fan base was sandbagging me when I saw the Falcons build an early 14-0 lead over Burroughs Thursday night and carry a 14-7 advantage into the third quarter.

After the Indians pulled out a 21-14 victory the same fans said their CV team arrived in the second half.

Actually credit needs to go to the Burroughs defense and playmaker on offense named Matt Volland.
