Joe Torosian

Good Afternoon!

I’ve seen San Dimas three times this year, but Covina only once…If the San Dimas team I’ve seen comes out against C-Town…Bill Zernickow will not be happy…The Colts are just finding a way…even when their stars are down, someone else is stepping up…(see all-time history below)

The Saints have been living on the big play or threat of a big play from Kevin Kolbeck, but Covina has the players in the secondary to counter Kolbeck.

Matt Murray has been a beat for Darryl Thomas’ defense…Prediction…Check with me Saturday morning…I think I will be able to break it down a little bit better…In fact I will be able to tell you how the whole thing goes down…

***

Arroyo has not lost to El Monte since November 2, 1990 when first year Lion HC Tim Campa saw his team roll to a 30-0 victory….In 1989 EM went 0-9 and was shutout five times…Including a 61-0 blanking by the Knights.

In 1990 they missed the playoffs with a 5-5 record as a 20-13 week ten loss to Duarte kept them from going to CIF.

***

The more I think about it…the better I like Bonita shaking off its loss to West Covina and putting a beating on Rowland.

***

Arroyo-El Monte One More Time: The Lions better get pressure on Steven Rivera or they are going to get lit up and it will be over early…On the flip side, if the El Monte O-Line can get a push going Michael Jimenez is good enough to keep the chains moving and Ramirez off the field.

***

So the Los Angeles Clippers have a lot of good young players everyone is excited about…There have been more sequels to that line than Freddy Krueger movies…

***

Loved hearing about Azusa team captain Edwin Garcia…who for the sake of the program/team moved from starting quarterback on the freshman squad a few years go to the offensive line… That’s another indication why the Aztecs are 29-4 over the last three years…

***

Did you know Mt. View, currently 4-4, has a chance to reach five wins in a single season for the first time since 1997 with a victory over Gabrielino this Friday night? That season the Vikings finished 7-4 and made their last playoff appearance.

***

Okay you talked me into it: Covina.

***

Last Add Mt.View: The Vikes have only enjoyed three winning seasons in school history. Varsity football began in 1972…Didn’t get its first win until 1973 (10/25/73, 14-7 over Schurr) and its first winning record, 5-4, in 1975 under Bob Casper…The first playoff appearance came in 1979 under HC Chuck Magnuson (39-14 loss to Royal Oak)…and the next winning season didn’t come until 1988 when finished 7-4 under HC Joe Dankert…The last winning season was (7-4, 1997) produced by Frank Alonzo.

***

Not even at The Mid, an office notorious for having folks slithering on and off bandwagons, is anyone laying claim to a belief Cal would be in the position it is in tonight…48 minutes from securing a playoff birth…I believe you have to call it good coaching…

***

Note to Cal HC Jim Arnold: I could use some stats though…

***

Note To Bad News Barker from Whittier Christian DC Peter Karavedas: “We are workin on it (a lot)!”

***

Duarte has lost 18 straight games…and needs 17 more points to equal last season’s output of 30…

***

My favorite line from the late Sparky Anderson was: “I’ve always been fair to the blanking writers!”

***

Note to Azusa HC Joe Scherf: “No one in the Olympic sees Azusa as an underdog,” says Karavedas.

Stay thirsty my friends…
