A Closer Look at the Hacienda League

Hacienda League sees its league schedule come to a close with two questions remaining.

First, which team gets the second spot? Diamond Ranch or Bonita.

Second, does Diamond Bar have enough to secure the one and only wild-card spot.

West Covina (8-1, 5-0) – Bulldogs ran wild against Diamond Ranch to clinch the Hacienda League. Running game is peaking at the correct time. Along with a potent defense, it has made West Covina the favorite heading into the post-season.

BODY OF WORK: 44-39 overall record of opponents, 5-1 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: Glendora (Inland) 5-4, Bonita (Southeast) 8-1

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  11/12 vs. Diamond Bar (6-3 record remaining opponents)

Bonita (8-1, 4-1) – Thinking that whatever holes in the defense were exposed in the loss to West Covina have been fixed. With Diamond Ranch being the final opponent, the thought process will be tested against the Panthers physical style of offense.

BODY OF WORK: 44-38 overall record of opponents, 5-1 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: Claremont (Inland) 7-2, San Dimas (Mid-Valley) 5-4

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  11/11 vs Diamond Ranch (5-4 record remaining opponents)

Diamond Ranch (5-4, 4-1) – If Chase Price isn’t healthy the Panthers offense isn’t the same. Big question is how healthy he is and whether he will be returning to the line-up anytime soon. Defensively, Marquis Cherry is a ball-hawk and makes good passing teams look bad.

BODY OF WORK:  44-38 overall record of opponents, 2-4 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: Damien (Inland) 5-4

Games Remaining:  @ Bonita (8-1 record remaining opponents)

Walnut (5-4, 2-3) – Finally get in to the playoffs after years of toiling in the fourth spot of the San Antonio League. Mustangs deserve a playoff spot after fighting some good teams to the end. Only blemish on Covina’s record is to Walnut which is saying something.

BODY OF WORK: 52-31 overall record of opponents, 2-3 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: Covina (Mid-Valley Division) 8-1

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  11/12 @ Los Altos (0-9 record remaining opponents)

Diamond Bar (6-3, 2-3) – Brahmas have settled on “pro-typical” quarterback Henry Omana. Since he took over the Brahmas have two straight wins in the Hacienda. Might be the favorites heading into the final week for the wildcard.

BODY OF WORK: 33-49 overall record of opponents,0-3 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  11/12 @ West Covina (8-1 record remaining opponents)

Rowland (4-6, 1-5) – Raiders managed to put an exclamation point on a lost season by losing five straight games. What appeared to be a couple of winnable games against lesser competition turned into a complete nightmare.

BODY OF WORK: 42-38 overall record of opponents, 1-5 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:

Los Altos (0-9, 0-5) – Season can’t end fast enough for the Conquerors who have yet to get within single digits in the Hacienda League. Rebuilding time is an understatement for Los Altos.

BODY OF WORK: 49-33 overall record of opponents, 0-6 against teams with winning records.

Signature Wins: None

Signature Loss: None

Games Remaining:  11/12 vs. Walnut (5-4 record remaining opponents)
