Slow Start Dooms Lancers

Lancers and Sailors battled at La Salle.

(Pasadena) – One mistake was all Marymount needed to defeat La Salle 1-0 in an early match at Kohorst Field on the campus of La Salle.

The Lancers misplayed a throw-in in its third of the pitch in the sixth minute of play and Sailors forward Natasha Wachtel netted a breakaway goal after she deked goalie Cassidy Rey.

For the second straight game in a week La Salle fell behind only to have to rally the remainder of the game.

This time however, the Lancers were the ones having to play on its heels after the early goal. On Thursday night La Salle dropped a game to San Marino 1-0 after peppering the Titans with 20 shots on goal.

This afternoon the Lancers managed just three opportunity with its best coming in the 24th minute on a corner kick attempt. The mad scramble that ensued was stymied by the Marymount defense that sent the ball the opposite direction for a counter-attack.

The Sailors forward Frances Watne nearly scored early in the second half with a beautifully timed run down the left goal box. Her shot narrowly missed as it trickled in front of the goal mouth.

In the 50th minute, Marymount nearly put the game away when Marie-Louise Hiedewahl took a point blank shot that was head for the right corner of the goal only to have Rey make an acrobatic save.

With time winding down, La Salle made one last ditch effort to get square when Kelly Synold took a shot from the left corner of the box. Sailor goal keeper Loren Hart made a nice stop to keep the shut out in check.
