Mark Keppel 46 California 37 – Aztecs survive Cal High second half blitz; were held to single digits in each panel after going up 16-7 after first and 31-12 at break.

Gabrielino 55 Marshall (Pasadena) 54 – Gabrielino overcomes 11 point halftime deficit and 26 points by Marshall machine Jordan Matthews.

Rancho Cucamonga 67 Charter Oak 59 – Rancho Cucamonga toyed with CO and led 20-4 after first and that would prove to be the difference as CO outscored them the rest of the way. Josiah Thropay (CO) scores 23.

La Salle 49 South Pasadena 34 – LS starts slow but both Gary Mkrtichyan (19) and Ian Schuler (18) arise to occasion.

Alhambra 54 Temple City 48 – Tim Sanderson (TC) 11 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Charter Oak 46 Monrovia 44 – Red-hot Thropay (CO) leaves lasting impression on former hometown crowd with game high 17 points.

South Pasadena 83 South Hills 80 – Most underrated and notoriously high scoring and overtime-laden fieldhouse rivalry goes to OT for third time in last four meetings (double OT for 2nd time over last three) and South Pas ends skid against SH in double OT. SH: Darrell Chapman 19-14, Korey Serna 18-10.

Mountain View 42 Pioneer 34 – Erick Martinez (MV) is all over the scorebook with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals and 6 assists.

Alhambra 71 Rosemead 38 – Moors dispatch 5-headed beast represented by Chris Acosta (17), Chucky Wu (15), James Ledesma (11), Ali Luna (11), and Ahmed Ali (9 points, 6 steals, 3 assists).

Whittier Christian 81 St. Anthony 71 – Red hot Heralds, victors of 9 of their last 10, begin 2011 with 3 wins in four days.

Gabrielino 44 Sunny Hills 43 – Resiliency and Gabrielino now belong in the same sentence as the Tongva hoopsters overcome another 11 point halftime hole to stun a solid Sunny Hills team at the wire. Coupled with a 2 points win over their own Alumni in “unofficial” contest the night before, Gabrielino has won their last three by a mere 4 points. As a result, second year head coach John Carney has amassed an unbelievable amount of gray hair.

South Hills 66 Arroyo 47 – Arroyo: Mark Roche scores 12 and records 4 blocks. Primitivo Gomez rejects another 2 and leads all scorers with 19 points, including 2 treys. South Hills: Team effort results in four players posting double figures scoring. Jeriko Santos (14) and Chris Porter (16) combine for and split the Huskies’ eight 3-pointers. Darrell Chapman (12) fell 1 carom short of double-double. Mikelle Cortez (12) dials in 4 assists.

Bosco Tech 74 South El Monte 53 – Bosco Tech doesn’t just ‘let loose’ with the trey….It unleashed it in torrential fashion with 14 bombs in all. Matthew Santos goes long and hits 5 times. Joshua Espinoza swishes another 4 from the Montebello Mall while freshman shooting extraordinaire EJ Mejia drills three more. Mejia now has a 44% percentage from beyond the arc. Bosco Tech is two away from their 100th 3-pointer of the year with league play yet to begin.

Mountain View 44 San Gabriel 27 – MV steams into big MVL opener against Gabrielino by stymieing SG from tipoff to final buzzer. Coach Averill’s troops off to a MVL best 13-3 start. Erick Martinez averaging 14.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals a game.

Flintridge Prep 86 Calvary Chapel (Santa Ana) 55 – You better come check out FP’s Dwight Howard incarnate in Kenyatta Smith. Had unbelievable 33 points, 20 rebounds, and 4 blocks this game. Smith now has back to back games with 20 or more points and boards.

Valley Christian 70 Big Bear 54 – VC ends five game skid, handing Big Bear a rough ride back through OC, the east SGV, and up the mountains. Jeff Hing (VC) goes 4 dishes short of triple double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists.

St Margaret’s 66 Maranatha 58 – Minutemen drop third straight.

Other

Rio Hondo Prep 63 El Monte 57 – RHP: Ryan Wiley (21 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists 2 steals) and Jake Holguin (16 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists) each posted double-doubles. Both were four assists shy of a triple-double.

Pasadena 69 Burroughs 29 – PHS’ main post player Brandon Jolley leaves first half with ankle injury (sprain). PHS Bulldogs go shutdown mode in second half and held Burroughs to 5 points in both the third and fourth. Combined with 4 and 10 vs. Glendale three days prior, Pasadena has allowed a combined 24 second half points in two Pacific League games so far. Big game Monday at Arcadia.

Arcadia 48 Glendale 46 – Arcadia rolls into titanic matchup against Pasadena inspired with a full head of steam off back to back resilient efforts. Home court advantage and horrendous Monday road record by PHS could spell biblical upset.

Rowland 71 West Covina 56 – 3-13 record does not indicate the capability of what West Covina could bring on any given day provided the perfect storm. Upset-minded Bulldogs put Rowland on the hot seat, taking them to a 35-34 halftime lead before being shelled in the fourth. Three Raider starters tally up 15 points or more. Another logged in 13.
