Joe Torosian

Good Morning!

Arroyo’s SGV Shootout is slated for July 9, 2011…The way it stands now I’ll be having a ham sandwich that day along with a single buffalo wing…Without sauce…

After coming off the El Monte schedule for 2010, Baldwin Park as returned to face the Lions in Zero Week this fall. Over his eight seasons as EM HC, Joel Sanchez is 1-3 versus the Braves’ James Heggins.

The victory? The very memorable “Night of the Pitch”,  September 28, 2007 and a late 22-21 El Monte win.

Returning quarterback Manuel Santa Cruz is working out at the quarterback combine at Beverly Hills High School…and took receivers Memo Silva and Juan Ceballos with him.

Last Add El Monte: Running back Mike Jimenez, excellent student, is receiving interest from Azusa Pacific.

Maranatha is looking for a new HC, but its added some new teams to its schedule…The Minutemen have dropped Santa Maria and added Azusa in Week Two. They’ve also booted Western Christian in Week Five and picked up South Pasadena.

We approve of these moves…and they were done without any consultation by or from The Mid…

Note on Maranatha: Remember they play in a five team Olympic League and have to fill six non-league spots…Big Bear remains over Labor Day Weekend but at least its a local game.

Add Andrew Elffers: The junior-to-be quarterback is already receiving interest and is scheduled for a lot of combines and camps.

Starting Bowling Green quarterback Matt Schilz, a Maranatha alum who played for Joel Murphy,  worked with Elfers during the break and helped with him improve his release point and mechanics.

Last Add Maranatha: During the first 24 hours over 20 resumes were submitted for the head coaching position, and by the end of the week they were close to 40.

Crescenta Valley HC Paul Schilling reports no changes to either his schedule or coaching staff.

“Zac (Wilkerson) should be the man (QB) this year. Running back Marro Lee will be back and so will wide receiver Nick Ruiz,” says Schilling. “Our offensive line will be led by Nathan Sarreal, who also will play inside linebacker. Our key will be to build a very inexperienced offensive and defensive line.”

Arcadia won our poll on who has the best chance to unseat West Covina as Southeast champion next season. Granted it was a small sampling, but still requires at least a surface look at the Apaches.

They return 25 of the 41 players on the roster. This includes quarterback Myles Carr and Taylor Lagace. The returners also include: running backs Sheldon McKinley and Rodney Arnett. On defense Clarence Irvin, and Gabriel Rousset.

Unless there is an absolute meltdown at WestCo, and Mike Maggiore fails to find someone to replace George Johnson at quarterback…This will be a tough chore for Jon Dimalante and company…

Still, Bonita road a hot quarterback in Garrett Pendleton to the finals this past season…Myles Carr is pretty good and there is room to run in a rebuilding Pacific…

It could be interesting…

Stay thirsty my friends…
