Lady Cats Ease Into Winning Streak

(Monrovia) – Coming off of a 10-0 win against South Pasadena, the Lady Cats continued its winning streak with a 10-0 victory over Rio Hondo Prep.

The game was called after Elise McCarthy scored from third base after a Kare error, enforcing the mercy rule.

“Both offensively and defensively, I thought we were right on today,” said Monrovia Head Coach Randy Medina.

It started early against Rio Hondo Prep, Kelly Williams singled from the leadoff spot. McCarthy followed with a bunt-single. Williams aggressively went to third. After McCarthy stole second, Schae Simpson sacrificed Williams with a shot to center field.

With Emmy Orozco and Stephanie Garcia on base, Williams singled to center to score both to extend the Lady Cats lead.

Samantha Saucedo opened up the third inning sending a Charley Parker pitch over the center field fence for a homerun.

Already in a hole, Rio Hondo Prep dug it deeper in the fourth.  Kares’ Parker, who struggled throughout the game, walked both Saucedo and Orozco. Monrovia’s Parker hit a single to bring in Saucedo for the score. Taking advantage of a struggling pitcher, Sara Castillo hit the games second home run, adding three more runs for Monrovia.

Emmy Orozco only allowed two hits for the game.

When asked what recent wins has done for the team’s upcoming game against La Canada, Medina answered, “It gives us some good confidence to know that we can hit the ball and that our pitcher can keep us in the game.”
