Baldwin Park and Walnut under the Lights…in May

Braves looking forward to football season

(Baldwin Park) – Baldwin Park and Walnut squared off Friday night in a passing competition. But it wasn’t your typical passing competition. It was 11 on 11 instead of the traditional 7 on 7 and it was under the Friday night lights at Baldwin Park High.

“I like it. It’s a lot better,” said Baldwin Park Coach James Heggins of 11 on 11. “As far as the quarterback it gives him a lot better ideas on his reads and what he’s looking at. It gives him a better perspective on things.”

The Braves are looking at two quarterbacks who are competing for the job. Senior Eric Robles and Sophomore Michael Moran were both getting snaps. Anthony Moran figures to be a big part of the offense in 2011 catching passes and running the ball.

Giovanni Resendez, who stands only 5’5” and weighs all of 140 pounds, broke off several long runs for the Braves.

“He’s small but very quick,” Heggins said.
