Edson, Trask, Lead Arcadia into Semis

By Corey Kwok

(Garden Grove) – Coming off a two day break after throwing five and one-third innings in a win at Alemany, K.J. Edson delivered another solid start as Arcadia beat Pacifica 2-1 Friday to advance to the Semi Finals of the CIF Division 2 playoffs.

Edson allowed just one unearned run and an infield hit in four and two-thirds before Erik Trask came on and closed the fifth with a strikeout. Trask then induced a huge double play to end the sixth before retiring the side in the seventh to get the win in relief.

With the victory, Arcadia will make its first CIF semifinal appearance in 24 years (1987). The Apaches will face Etiwanda on Tuesday.

Both runs scored via the actions of George Papavasiliou, who hit the first pitch he saw in the second to shallow right field for a sacrifice fly that picked up a sprinting Brendan Campbell to put Arcadia up first. In the seventh, he belted one to the right-center fence for a go-ahead RBI double that plated Trask, who led off the inning off with a two-bagger of his own and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by David Dominguez.

Pacifica evened the score at one in its half of the second with the ball never leaving the infield. Ryan Dickison led off the frame with an infield single to short and was bunted over by Devin Campos before an error moved him to third. Jordan Ellis then bounced it up the third base side for an RBI fielder’s choice as Dickison slid home safely and beat the throw.

Kyle Davis boomed a leadoff double in the seventh off Trask to give the Mariners a chance, but Trask then shut the door. He struck out hitters for the first and third outs while receiving help from right fielder Brandon Benson with a can of corn for the second out. Davis also started and went the distance for Pacifica. He delivered a quality performance on a seven strikeout, two run, four hitter.

Arcadia will bring the action back home at Giambrone Field for the semifinals against Etiwanda. Game time has yet to be announced but with Etiwanda having completed graduation on Wednesday, a start under the lights is not out of realm.
