Brummett Steps Down at Gabrielino

By Tim Peterson

(San Gabriel) – Scott Brummett has resigned as Boys Basketball Coach at Gabrielino after 14 years on the job. Brummett is the only coach the Eagles have ever had. In the 14 year run his teams only missed the playoffs twice – in 1995, which was the first year of the varsity competition, and 2007.

The Eagles won five Mission Valley League titles under Brummett, who will stay on as the Athletic Director.

“I have been truly blessed to have such outstanding young men come through the program at Gabrielino and this coming year is no exception,” Brummett said. “I have also always had, and continue to receive, incredible support from the administration at GHS and I thank them for that. The fans and community have been wonderful.”

But Brummett did miss the time with his family.

“That has made this an incredibly difficult decision. However, my own kids are growing up too fast. My oldest are sophomores in high school, and I look forward to being around their games and activities more often. I have two younger kids who also have very active schedules,” Brummett added.

A search for a replacement has begun and the Eagles hope to name the new coach early next week.
