Warriors Outlast Vikings in Shootout

(Covina) – Michael Patini had five receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown, and was part of a foursome of Warriors that posted triple digit stats for La Puente, who outlasted Northview 43-34 Friday night at Covina District Field.

Viking tailback Javon Taylor opened up the game with a 15 yard dash to paydirt and would visit there twice more from 5 and 64 yards out for 3 touchdowns total. Taylor finished with 157 yards on 21 carries to lead Northview.

Nick Barrientos hauled the rock 15 times for 161 yards and three TDs while dual threat Joey Centeno took one of two TD strikes from QB Ivan Vasquez for a 24 yard score before dialing in another 135 yards rushing on 12 attempts and another TD.

Vasquez ended the night completing 11 of 14 for 191 yards, with his touchdown going to Patini.

Patini also came away with a game clinching interception for La Puente late in the final stanza.

Northview signal caller Victor Garcia was picked off near the end of the game but completed all seven of his other throws for 93 yards and 2 TDs. Will Mitchell coasted in one for 43 while Christian Alba scored on a short screen from Garcia for eight yards.
