(El Monte)- Lions quarterback Brandon Martinez put on a show to lead El Monte to a 35-0 win Friday night over visiting Gladstone.

The Lions stuffed the Gladiators with a three and out. Then Martinez went to work, hitting a wide open Juan Ceballos for 45-yards down to the 1-yard line. Next play Martinez pounded it in to make it 7-0.

El Monte, still holding its own on defense, scored again in the first quarter with zeros on the clock when running back Bryan Luevano punched it in.

Gladstone didn’t have any answer for the Lions defense, and in a two minute span just before the half Martinez scored on runs of 29 and 7 to give El Monte a 28-0 lead at halftime.

The Lions in the second half got sloppy fumbling the ball four times, but the Gladiators were never able to cash in on the mistakes.

Early in the fourth quarter Martinez found Ceballos again this time he took it 61-yards to paydirt to put up the Lions 35-0 after Luevano’s fifth extra point of the night.

El Monte’s defense had 9-sacks, Ruben Jimenez with three and Adam Campos with a pair.

Martinez finished with 103-yards on the ground and 177-yards in the air. Luevano had a solid night rushing 91-yards. Ceballos led in receiving with 113-yards on three catches.

Despite the loss Gladstone quarterback Kevin Amezquita went 15 of 25 for 131-yards and running back Aaron Sanchez played tough on offense and defense.
