Anding Runs Wild

Zander Anding ran all over Arcadia

(Arcadia) – Burroughs took advantage of three Arcadia turnovers in the third quarter to continue its dominance of the Apaches with a 42-29 Pacific League win.

Zander Anding provided much of the offensive punch for the Indians by rushing for 279 yards and five touchdowns.

With both teams struggling to provide any offensive punch midway through three quarters, it was the Indians defense and Special Teams that came through with it leading 14-10.

After Taylor Lagace put the Apaches in great field position with a 36-yard punt return with 5:24 remaining in the third quarter, Indians cornerback Kody Jensen jumped in front of a Myles Carr pass to stop a potential go-ahead drive and returned it to the Burroughs 38-yard line.

Anding did all the damage in the subsequent drive for Burroughs rushing for 50-yards and scoring on a 20 yard scamper to make the score 21-10.

On the ensuing kickoff, Arcadia misplayed the “pooch” kick and David Disteano recovered the ball for Burroughs. Two plays later, Anding capped off the two-play drive from 15 yards out to extend the Indians lead to 18.

The nightmare continued to for the Apaches kickoff team as they misplayed the next “pooch” kick that was again recovered by an Indians player. Anding finished the drive with a powerful two-yard run to blow a relatively close game wide open with 11:55 remaining in the game.

Arcadia’s high-flying offense that was on display last week, was still a no-show until its next possession. The Apaches finally got back on track offensively when Myles Carr found Alex McElwee wide open for a 44-yard touchdown pass. The drive took just 53 seconds to finish.

The Apaches recovered the onside kick on the ensuing kickoff to breathe new life in the Arcadia faithful. The drive was capped off by Jake Medel’s three-yard run to get the Apaches within 11 points.

Unable to contain Anding for much of the game, Arcadia finally stopped the Indians offense on five plays and forced them to punt.

With 6:23 remaining, the Apaches started an 11-play drive that went 65-yards. Carr scored from eight-yards out but the two-point conversion failed.

Burroughs managed to thwart any attempt of an incredible comeback by Arcadia when Anding capped off his night with his fifth touchdown of the evening with 41 seconds remaining in the game.

Carr finished the evening 31 of 48 for 318 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Lagace led all receivers with 14 catches for 150 yards.
