Star News Prep Editor, Miguel Melendez

Pasadena Sun Prep Editor Andrew Campa

Good Afternoon!

The Southeast Division crown quest suddenly seems to have some openings…

You know Arcadia is in trouble when Taylor Lagace catches 14 passes for 150 yards but scores no touchdowns.

Things to be thankful for in life: Wife, children, family, home…and that I didn’t have to interview His Arroyo Baldness after his Knights were nearly upset by the La Canada Spartans.

I have moved South Pasadena into my “Might Pull Something” slot.

Star News writer Miguel Melendez was off on his prediction of Maranatha-South Pas Friday night. He predicted 44-14 Minutemen…Way off…It was 35-14 Minutemen.

There was once a time when you would cover a high school football game…and be the only sportswriter there.

There was also a time when you had to go back to the office to find out what happened at other games.

So, Burroughs is now the team to beat in the Pacific League.

Darien McGee three kick-off returns in three consecutive games…Can he get MVP consideration in the Mid-Valley Division considering his quarterback is Andrew Elffers?

WestCo's Jimmy Frazier

In regards to West Covina and its victory over Walnut remember: If the left one don’t get you then the right one will.

Love’em, hate’em, I’m guessing if Pomona makes the playoffs nobody is going to want to play them. (Can we see any Schreiman to Mosby highlights on youtube?)

After he’s thrown six touchdown passes in the last two games, I want to be the first to admit that I have always been a Brandon Cox fan.

The Ranch has won four straight…El Rancho running back Josh Lopez rushes for 165 yards and two touchdowns, including a 94-yard scoring run against Fontana.

Blake Heyworth seems to have settled the quarterback position for M-Town. Six touchdown passes in one game has a way of doing that…

Last Add La Canada: The record doesn’t reflect it but the Spartans have played hard for HC Dan Yoder even though they’ve been outmatched most of the year.

In Fanview Lite I mentioned Brandon Martinez was going to go over the top to Memo Silva for a big score. Against Cerritos on Friday night Martinez and Silva hooked up for a 66-yard score.

I always thought Cal, currently 4-1, was going to have a big year. Never doubted it for a minute.

What was the thought process on the Hoover sideline against Burbank?

Note to Everyone: Walk away…Just walk away.

Only academia can take a touchdown away for taunting…

Should we discourage taunting? Sure, absolutely…But we should also teach players (and others) the life practice of learning how to walk away. To be adult and understand that living by their emotions is a poor way to live.

The death of Al Davis opens two doors for the Oakland Raiders and their fans. The possibility of stable, long term success…and a return to Los Angeles.

Utah really stunk today…Then again so did Texas.

Really Last Add La Canada: Remember the Spartans only gave up 14 points to Glendale…Pasadena gave up 46.

South Pasadena-Maranatha was a physical contest

In 1956 Temple City, under Chuck Piper, finished its second season of varsity play with a 0-8-1 record, but they began that season with a 0-4-1 record. Thus, as a result of their 35-9 loss to Rosemead on Friday, the Rams 0-5 start is the worst in school history.

What happened to Whittier Christian last night?

Late Note TC Starts: The tie in 1956 was a 6-6 match with Arcadia in Week Two.

Burroughs has scored over 40 points in each of its Pacific League games this year…what are the chances they get over 40 against Glendale next Thursday?

On this Date in 2004: Gladstone beat La Puente 39-8 at McIntosh Stadium. Gladiator quarterback Mark Casteneda ran for over a hundred yards and passed for a 100 more, but it was the G-Stone defense that shined by picking off five Warrior passes. For LP Eric Morales was in on 18 tackles.

Last Add On this Date: Bosco Tech running back Nick Acuna rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns in the Tigers 35-31 loss to Schurr. Acuna was good, but Spartan running back Jesse “Gordo” Ramirez was great rushing 43 times for 241 yards and five touchdowns.

If they play today San Dimas beats Covina.

Rosemead’s Matt Eddy with 112 yards against Temple City has now rushed for 665 yards on the season only needs 335 yards to give the Panthers a 1,000 yard rusher for 12th consecutive season.

Arroyo wide receiver Hunter Duran: 30 receptions, 8 touchdowns, and a 21.2 yards per catch average.

Considering Glendale started playing varsity football at around the time Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, quarterback Evan Norton’s numbers against Pasadena of 24-41 for 465 yards (a school record) are remarkable.

Less remarkable, because it is rapidly becoming a standard were Mike Davis’s 12 catches for 236 yards and three touchdowns.

Muir needs to get focused or a season of opportunity is going to slip away real fast.

Did you know the El Monte defense has not allowed a point since the fourth quarter of its September 16th loss to Covina?

Covina needs a healthy Billy Livingston if it expects to beat San Dimas

The last time the Lions defense recorded two shutouts in a season was 2008. They went to the playoffs that year. The last time they pitched back to back shutouts? 2004 against Azusa and La Serna.

Note to Critics: Bell Gardens can play defense. You don’t hold a homerun hitting offense like South El Monte’s to 14 points if you can’t scheme and tackle.

Big George is right, Mt. View you better get it together.

Nice bounce back win for Los Altos last night, but now things get really serious when they host a white hot Diamond Ranch team next week.

Does Mayfair’s performance against Norwalk increase speculation that they can be beat by Bellflower?

Valley Christian needs a win.

LP’s Michael Patini is the Mid-Valley Division’s version of Boo Radley. You know he’s there, but you never seem to see him. Good football player.

I’ve decided to go see “Moneyball” but BlueState needs to buy.

Note to Zeke Prado: Burroughs running back Zander Anding.

We’ve been following Joe Scherf’s run as Azusa’s HC since taking over in 2008. The Aztecs have won 21 consecutive Montview League games, in 13 of those games they held opponents to seven points or less, and they have recorded seven shutous.

Help me, help you!
