(Glendale) – Rio Hondo Prep was held scoreless in the first half but outscored Village Christian 31-6 in the second half to beat the Crusaders 31-13 Saturday night at Glendale High.

The Kares were down 7-0 at the break but Ty Loomis scored on a six yard touchdown to get RHP going in the second half. The score was set up by an 86 yard lick off return by Tyler Heap. Loomis also ran in the two point conversion to give Rio Hondo an 8-7 advantage.

In the fourth quarter Rio Hondo Prep quarterback Colby Rivera scored on a one yard quarterback keeper and Ryan Wiley came up with a big play defensively with a 52 yard interception return for a touchdown. The Kares intercepted Village Christian’s Jesse Hanckel three times.

Jake Holguin caught a 20 yard TD strike from Rivera in the fourth quarter for Rio Hondo Prep and finished with five receptions for 104 yards.

Amjed Aboul-hosn had 26 carries for 162 yards to lead the Crusader offense but it wasn’t enough to hold off the second half Kare surge.

The Kares improved to 4-1 on the year while Village Christian dropped to 3-3.
