The Sidd Finch of Arcadia football; Jake Medel (#3). After 4 first half Tds, everyone wants to know where he's come from.
Arcadia’s Jake Medel rushed for four touchdowns in the first half, Myles Carr threw for two more in the second as the Apaches routed Pasadena 48-21 Friday night (Parents Night) at Salter Stadium.
Medel finished with 144 yards on 20 carries to push his season totals to 578 yards on the season, with his third 100 yard plus game since getting his first rushing attempt at the start of October.
“He’s a junior who got his opportunity when Sheldon (McKinley) got hurt,” said Arcadia HC Jon Dimalante about Medel. “He’s smooth he’s got a great sense of what to do.”
“He’s patient, he uses his blocks well,” said well traveled Pasadena assistant Tony Sumida. “He’s a very good back.”
On the other side of the field Bulldog quarterback Brandon Cox shined, but even with two touchdown runs and a scoring throw the Apache defense kept him contained.
“We’re getting better every day,” said Dimalante. “And the guys are working hard.”
Getting better by the day is Arcadia quarterback Myles Carr who threw three touchdown passes on only 6 of 8 passing for 144 yards.
The first came with a minute to play in the opening quarter when he scalpel’d the ball through double coverage to Alex McElwee. The senior receiver made the grab in traffic for a 37-yard score.
Carr’s second touchdown pass came early in the third when he pinpointed a 27-yard pass to Joey Willm through similar coverage.
Five minutes later Carr went 14-yards to tight end Robbie Haines to make it a 48-14 game and raise sideline chants from teammates that he’s best quarterback in the valley.
For Cox, who has received very deserved accolades this season, his two touchdown runs and scoring pass late to Marcus Green from 29-yards out was a good performance but he will need to do more if his teammates don’t give more around him. Fumbles, false starts, poor special teams play contibuted to Pasadena’s woes.
Next week Arcadia faces long time thorn in the flesh Crescenta Valley while the Bulldogs will look for some balance against Muir in the Turkey Tussle.
