Kick it!
I want to be excited about USC…someone give me a reason to be excited…

Locally, I will never get into the Smudge Pot (San Dimas-Bonita) being played in early September.

It would be great to see the Patriots win tonight, but if I had money on it, I’d take the Seahawks.

Maybe it’s because the Mets are out of it, but doesn’t baseball feel so boring when the NFL season starts? I’ll be back in October.

Even though they didn’t look good, and the way they were given the victory last Saturday was seriously bad, I’m still a Hail Michigan guy.

I like the fight song, I like the helmet, love the unis, and hate Ohio State—So hail to the victors.

I don’t know how they’ll fare against Oklahoma this Saturday, but the Sooners’ biggest advantage might be Bryce Underwood.

Still, the Wolverines will be in the Big House with that crowd and an extra second to play with.

With that said, Go Longhorns…

Glad Aaron Donald is sitting out Week One… cliché to say, but 17 games over 18 weeks is a marathon and not a sprint.

With Fog City losing DT Alfred Collins for the season—in a practice on Tuesday (“We’re talking practice, man.”)—Kyle Shanahan would be wise to think the same way.

Collins was drafted in the second round (43rd overall) last year out of Texas. He started one game, and he’s okay…what hurts most is that he’s less than a month away from turning 25.

The old guys are expected to get hurt, not the young guys. The 49ers are hurting.

And with years and years of stacking multiple injuries, they need to rethink how they do business.

Baker Mayfield got his extension…good for him and better for the Bucs.

What sports give us…is an opportunity to witness gratitude.

Not the kneel or point to heaven after a big play…but the acknowledgment by the coach, athlete, sports reporter/analyst/talking head…expressing gratitude for the mere opportunity to be part of sports for a living.

In the old days, when you’d actually have to go to the bank to deposit your check…and stand in line. Bored, I remember looking at my deposit slip and check. Seeing the note in the memo line… For: “Writing” or “Sports Writing”…

Frick! I’d think to myself, I really get paid to write and speak about sports! How blessed am/was I?

Interested in MLB or not…#105—May the San Francisco Giants rot and lie stinking in the earth…

I will watch the WNBA when it returns—college kids should have been sent to FIBA—pausing their season so late in the season is another example of a welfare league knowing it doesn’t have to make money….Because someone is always going to take care of them…

The Dude abides…
