Joe Torosian

Good Afternoon!

If Howard Cosell was still around and at the Norwalk-WestCo game Friday night, I believe his refrain would be: “Touchdown Frazier! Touchdown Frazier!”

The difference between Burroughs and Los Altos? Zander Anding and about 2,500 yards rushing. Catch this dude now, or you will regret it forever.

La Serna and Frankie Palmer will tear up Mayfair…Since I’m not welcomed at Ron Yary Stadium I might as well go the distance.

There was a move by Big Tony to decertify the Mid Valley Sports Writers Union…hard to decertify something when you’re certifiable.

The slant from inside sources says that it cost Burbank $6,000 to play at Arcadia…The cost for Burroughs to play Friday’s first round game at Glendale High? $9,000…

Maranatha versus San Gabriel: Minutemen versus Matadors. Quarterbacks named Andrew and Andy, both have thrown 22 touchdown passes. Head coaches with prominent New Testament names…and it may be the most exciting game this coming weekend.

I’ll let you know who I’ve got Saturday morning.

Brandon Rohrer and The La Puente High School Warriors have to be happy about opening the playoffs with Alhambra instead of with an Olympic League team. Sure the Moors are 8-2, but the Warriors played Paraclete (45-0) in 2009 and Maranatha (41-28) in 2010.

LP One More Time: The Warriors are 0-6 this century in the playoffs. Dating back to 1995 they have lost 10 first round games in a row.

It could be the last time around the track for a lot of players this weekend…Keep that in mind if you decide not to go to a game on Friday.

High school football is much more like live theater than the movie experience. With movies they are always there, they are canned, packaged and accessible. Think in terms of NFL and College football. You never miss anything.

Prep football, less than five percent of a game is ever seen again. Like the theater, the stage is set, the drama plays, and then it is all torn down in preparation for the new.

For the aficionado it has to be now or never.

Not a sermon just a reminder…Life is fleeting…

If you’re a long, long, long time Monrovia fan this Friday offers a shot of redemption. On December 14th, 1951 Pomona defeated M-Town at Mt. San Antonio College in front o 17,000 fans.

Since 1960 the Red Devils and the Wildcats have met four times, but have not played each other in the post-season since 1951. So for Monrovia this is your shot for payback…I’m sure this has been heavy on Coach Ryan Maddox’s mind.

Al Eberhart has resigned as Glendale’s HC…Keep Gypsy John Tuttle in mind. The former San Marino quarterback has been at Glendale the last two years as a teacher and as been helping out with the football team.

I like Muir over Santa Fe…I just do.

Note to Mustang Coach Mitchell: Tell Marvin Hatchett I’m ready to take him in the low post any time…Just like I did back in the old days.

Last Add M-Town: No, Wildcat assistant Mike Minter was not on staff in 1951…I’ll check on 1959.

Arroyo’s Hunter Duran heads into Friday’s game against Sierra Vista with 88 receptions and 25 touchdowns in his career.

Really Last Add M-Town: The Wildcats have won all four of their games with Pomona since 1960.

El Monte in the Upset at Whittier College…The Heralds loss to Village Christian bothered me. Have they already played their best football?

The Dude abides…
