Jumping Jollevet! Saints Advance

Domonic Jollevet leads Saints past Titans

(Azusa) – Domonic Jollevet rushed for 210 yards and two touchdowns to lead San Dimas to a 31-21 win over San Marino Thursday night in the first round of the CIF Mid-Valley Division playoffs at Citrus College.

Jollevet had only three carries in the first half but exploded in the second half for touchdown runs of 58 and 77 yards to hold off a game Titan team.

The 77 yarder was the dagger. The Titans had just driven 80 yards which Kwame Do capped with a one yard score to cut the San Dimas lead to 24-21 with 3:36 left. San Dimas got the ball back and on the second play from scrimmage, Jollevet went right up the gut, veered right and was gone for a 77 yard TD sprint to put the Saints back up by ten. With only 2:52 left that was all she wrote.

“Domonic’s been making big plays for us all year and he did again tonight,” said San Dimas Coach Bill Zernickow.

San Dimas had to overcome two turnovers in the red zone and a big night by Do who scored all three San Marino touchdowns.

Leading 14-7, in the second quarter Paul Myint picked off Saint quarterback Shawn Kennedy in the end zone. In the third quarter San Dimas trying to ice it fumbled the ball at the five and it caromed into the endzone where the Titans fell on it.

“Those were awful mistakes. Any time you leave 14 points on the table, it’s going to be tough to win,” Zernickow said.

San Marino hurts its cause as well with three turnovers including an interception on its first possession of the game.

In the first quarter Dillon Corona picked off Matt Wofford and San Dimas set up shop at the San Marino 49. Seven plays later Jake Payton scored from nine yards out for a 7-0 lead.

After a short punt San Dimas got the ball right back and marched 60 yards on five plays. Kennedy hit Cody McNeal on a 19 yard touchdown pass and with 1:50 left in the first quarter it was 14-0 San Dimas and it seemed the rout was on.

On the next possession, San Marino pieced together an 80 yard drive with Do scoring on a two yard run to cut the lead in half.

San Dimas turned it over in the red zone on the following series and the Titans capitalized tying it on a three yard plunge by Do. The “rout” was suddenly 14-14 at the half.

San Dimas scored on its first series of the second half. Jollevette went 58 yards to put the Saints back on top. Corona booted a 25 yard field goal early in the fourth before Do scored later in the quarter to get the Titans within three.

Jollevet then applied the proverbial nail in the coffin.

Kwame Do heads to paydirt for one of three scores

Do had 20 carries for 88 yards and three scores for the Titans while Wofford completed 13 of 26 passes for 226 yards and an interception. Chris Bayle hauled in three receptions for 79 yards.

The Saints had over 300 yards on the ground. Devante Brown rushed for 80 yards and Jake Payton added 34.

“We knew coming in it was going to be a struggle. San Marino is a good football team. They’re well coached,” Zernickow added.

San Dimas will play the winner of the Azusa-Valley Christian game in the second round.
