(La Canada) – Game Recaps for the Midvalleysports.com/La Canada Winter Ball Tournament –

HART 57 LA CANADA 53

For the second consecutive night the Indians fell behind early in the game only to rally late as Victoria Lionetti and Melissa Boscarino took control in the final two minutes scoring all 10 points to help Hart defeat host La Canada, 57-53.

The Spartans controlled the game for three quarters until the Indians unleashed a fourth quarter barrage of 15 points, while limiting La Canada to just seven points.

Led by Courtney Chen’s 17-first half points, the Spartans raced to a twelve point lead.

Early on it was the play of Miceala Anderson on defense that frustrated Hart as she had four blocks in the first half with two against Boscarino.

During the second half, the Indians began to chip at the La Canada lead and finally took the lead on Breze Kimble’s layup after Boscarino found her on a 2-on-1 break with 5:10 remaining.

Sydney Zarate gave the Spartans the lead on the next possession with a 10-foot jumper from the corner.

La Canada managed to get some breathing room as Anderson scored on a three-point play that saw Kailie Kennedy foul out with just under three minutes remaining in the game.

It would be the last time the Spartans would enjoy a lead as Lionetti and Biscarino teamed up to tie the game at 51.

Two free-throws by Lionetti late in the game gave the Indians the lead until Zarate hit the same 10-footer with 23 seconds to go.

With the ball and a chance to win, Biscarino was called for travelling, which gave La Canada the last opportunity.

As Hart applied the pressure, Biscarino picked the pocket of Chen and scored with 4.5 seconds remaining for the win.

The Spartans will face Arcadia for the second time in three weeks for third place.

 

ARCADIA 50 FSHA 45

The Apaches benefitted from going to the charity stripe 23 times and converting 18 free throws to defeat the Tologs 50-45 in its final game of Pool B play.

In a see-saw battle throughout the second half, it was a three-pointer by Julissa Aguirre with 2:31 remaining in the game was the game winner as the Apaches pulled away the final two minutes to improve to 2-1 in tournament play and FSHA fell to 0-3.

Melody Chang scored 18 points with while just scoring 10 points from the field in leading all Apaches scorers.

Lana Haddad finished with 18 points for the Tologs.

 

MOORPARK 62 GOLDEN VALLEY 53

The Musketeers will face Hart in the Midvalleysports.com/La Canada Winter’s Ball Championship at 7:00pm after holding off the Lady Grizzlies 62-53.

RAMONA CONVENT 57 FRANKLIN 47

The Tigers rebounded from its loss to Hart with a convincing 57-47 win over Franklin to decide third place in Pool A.

Ramona Convent will face Golden Valley in the fifth place game on Friday at 4pm. Franklin faces FSHA for seventh place at 2:30pm.
