Southeast Division Player of the Year: Burroughs’ Zander Anding

Burroughs' Zander Anding

Welcome to Awards Season.

His name alone merits award consideration. We should all be blessed to start life with a name like “Zander Anding”.

It would also be nice if we were blessed with his skills and abilities. The Burroughs senior was expected to have a big year, expected to be the Indians next great back in the style of Dalton Williams, Dominique Barnes, and Joe Wiggan to name a few.

What Anding became in 2011 was a bomb dropped on opponents. As the focal point of the Burroughs attack he averaged 13.1 yards per carry, accounted for 3,198 total yards, scored two touchdowns on kick-off returns, two touchdowns receiving and 26 touchdowns rushing. All of this when the other team knew he was going to get the ball.

The big games came against the good teams as well as the bad, and against the fiercest rivals. In the annual match against Burbank Anding ran HC Keith Knoop’s version of “The Ram” (a Burroughsized Wildcat) with him taking direct snaps at quarterback.

His numbers that night? 29 carries, 349 yards, and four touchdowns.

His rushing numbers for the season? 204 carries for 2,686 yards.

Whether he’s a Bad Dude Deluxe or plays with an “S” on his chest, for the effort and results Anding is the Mid Valley Sports, Southeast Division Player of the Year in 2011.
