Heggins Steps Down at Baldwin Park

James Heggins

(Baldwin Park) – James Heggins has confirmed to Mid Valley Sports that he has stepped down as the Head Coach at Baldwin Park.

The Braves are coming off a 2-8 season but in 2010 Heggins led Baldwin Park to a 5-1 Valle Vista League record and a second place finish. The Braves faced Schurr in the first round of the playoffs that year and fell 31-7.

Heggins had a succesful run at Baldwin Park after taking over for Rick Ward in 2005. In seven years he had an overall record of 41-35 with five playoff appearances. His best year was in 2009 when the Braves went 9-3 and beat Gladstone in the first round of the playoffs before falling to Whittier Christian in the second round.

Baldwin Park was 3-7 the year before Heggins took over. He went 7-4 in his first year on the job and advanced to the playoffs in his first three years. Heggins brought football back to the forefront at BP and revived the Baldwin Park Alumni game which proved to be a successful fundraiser the last couple of years.

Heggins has accepted a job as an assistant coach at Mt. San Antonio College. The search for a replacement will begin immediately.
