Bonita Wins Arcadia Invitational

Championship Game

Bonita 7 Glendora 2

Glendora’s little two-out scramble in the seventh was of little diversion to another dominant win by pitcher Justin Garza, who struck out 11 and issued 4 hits, a walk, and a pegged batter going the distance for Bonita, who successfully defended its reign in the Apache Invitational.

The Bearcats, up 1-0 in the second off an RBI single by Tanner Diebold, breached the levees for five runs in the third stanza and one more in the fourth. Justin Row led off that third on a crushing note, smashing an 0-2 offering out of left for a solo bomb. Garza then followed that by buzzing another 0-2 serve through a narrow seam and down third out onto the greens before plating on Thomas Castro’s misplayed grounder up first. A Jake Blunt single and Anthony Gonzalez sacrifice bunt later, Tyler Heslop sizzled a two run double to the hinterlands in right before scoring on another infield miscue to make it 6-0 Bonita at the end of three.

Garza had a complete game shutout going with two outs in the seventh before Nick Kaye, who led off the frame with a base hit, got delivered on Johnny Juarez’s single over the 3-4. The ensuing outfield throw-in missed its cutoff, allowing D J Peters to strike paydirt as well, but two pitches later, Bearcat catcher Blunt ended it all by picking off Juarez at third.

La Salle 6 St Francis 4

Chris “Drip N Steeze” Williams had a dynamite day at bat for the Lancers, off three different pitchers, going 3 for 3 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs, and a double before being intentionally walked in the fifth.

Antonio Ruiz was doubled in by Williams to break a 1-1 tie before Williams, along with Jalen Gray, both plated on RBI walks by Jordan Rodgers and Austin Wallis as La Salle led 4-1 after three. Tei Vanderford, fresh off a game tying solo HR to force extra innings in Tuesday night’s come-from-behind victory against Arcadia and delivering a quality two-hit pitching performance vs. Glendora on Monday, led off the fourth with a double and scored when Tom Scheper hit a long rollout to first.

St Francis rallied once more after two quick strikeouts by Derby in the bottom of the sixth. Anders Schraer hopped a base hit onto shallow left and Scheper battled his way to a walk before the two were ringed in when Cole Ramseyer zipped the rock completely down the right field line for a two run double.
