  1. Drew Brees signs 5-year $100 million dollar contract with record $60 million guaranteed with New Orleans Saints.
  2. New York Knicks’ Jason Kidd arrested and charged with DWI.
  3. Frankie Palmer leads La Serna to semi-final at Claremont passing tournament.
  4. South High (Torrance) returns leading tackler Adam Heifetz. 104 tackles and two sacks.
  5. Albuquerque Isotope Kenley Jansen.
  6. Bronco’s Elvis Dumervile arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm.
  7. On this day in 1987 Don Mattingly hits his 4th grand slam of the season and ties and AL record with homers in six straight games. Mattingly went on to tie the Major League record of eight straight games with a home run.
  8. Seattle Seahawks release former USC wide receiver Mike Williams.
  9. Last NFL team to go out of business was the Dallas Texans in 1952.
