Kick it!
When the Lakers sold again, and it looked like the Buss family would be completely exiting any relationship with the team, I saw a comment that Doc Buss was probably rolling over in his grave.
Names come off of teams all the time. I don’t think anyone could have envisioned a time when the name O’Malley wouldn’t be attached to the Dodgers…but we know what happened.
I think what is actually causing Doc Buss to roll over in his grave is what is happening between his children.
Note to Jeanie: Walk away and live in peace.
I’ve got a problem. I like Marcus Freeman, but I hate Notre Dame.
I’ll take the Fighting Irish over Georgia, Ohio State, and Oklahoma…In fact, I’ll take anyone and everyone, even the Russians, over the Buckeyes.
Last Add College Football: While I’ll root for them, doesn’t Indiana at #6 feel a bit high?
It’s come up in private with close friends and in comments on my Rams podcast…and that’s: “Are the Chargers really going to go into this most important of all seasons with Trey Lance as their QB2?”
My response is Jimmy Garoppolo is out there, and Bolts OC Mike McDaniel was his OC back in their Fog City days.
Speaking of football, I got this after yesterday’s column: “Joe, what’s your problem? Do you hate women in sports?”
I have a wife and three daughters and some of my closest associates in my “day job” are women.
No, I don’t hate women, but I hate women calling play-by-play in any sport. I think in almost all broadcasting cases, in a warped allegiance to representing diversity, a woman will be elevated over a more qualified man with a better voice.
I’ve got no problem with them being in the booth—if they’re good. Did you hear Jourdan Rodrigue on the Rams broadcast Saturday? A hundred times better than Mina Kimes…a hundred times better than Aqib Talib.
Hannah Storm, Linda Cohn, and Michelle Tafoya were all good. And does anybody remember Jeanne “Go-Go” Zelasko?
Until the call for diversity includes halfbreed Armenians by any means necessary, I will never sing opera, be added to a choir, or be asked to do narration for the remake of The Shawshank Redemption.
We are gifted in some things, we are not gifted in all things.
It’s just what it is, and the tone of a woman’s voice, no matter how much they try to deepen it (see Beth Mowins), it just doesn’t work.
Next Add Women: Let’s also remember that the platforms that wedge women announcers in on us are also the platforms that put the majority of these women through a “looks” test.
And before you cite Holly Rowe…while she is a competent reporter, she’s used for ballast.
Does anybody envision, at any point this fall, a Kyle Tucker moment? I’m waiting for the meme/AI of Tucker and Edwin Diaz being shown the exit gate at Dodger Stadium, with Timmy Trumpet blasting “Narco.”
#95—May the San Francisco Giants rot and lie stinking in the earth. …With a 51-73 record and 23 games out of first place, it’s close but not enough.
Next Add Lakers/Last Add Women: By the way, if you want insight into what is happening with the Lakers & Buss family…Ramona Shelburne is a go-to on this matter.
The Dude abides…

Let’s be clear on why the Lakers were so dominant during the showtime era: there was no salary cap and Jerry Buss was, by his own admission, “indulging his fantasies” by outspending everyone. That would be the end of the story, were it not for how poorly this family treated Jerry West, who was promised 5% of the team, but didn’t get it because old drunkard and womanizer Jerry changed his mind and gave it to Magic.
Jerry West did nothing wrong to deserve this slight, so he bolted for Golden State and made them a success, which pissed off the Busses, who will forever (unfairly) hate him. With this history clearly in mind, you can excuse me if I shed zero tears for the plight of Jeannie and her siblings.
