1. The Dodgers acquire Hanley Ramirez and relief pitcher Randy Choate from the Marlins for Nathan Eovaldi and minor league hurler Scott McGough.

2. The Phillies re-sign Cole Hamels to a six year $140 million deal.

3. Former Monrovia/current UCLA defensive linemen Ellis McCarthy underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee Friday and will miss part of training camp.

4. Cal Ripken’s mother was kidnapped at gunpoint Tuesday morning and was then found unharmed but with her hands bound in the backseat of her car early Wednesday.

5. 14-year-old quarterback Tate Martell commits to Washington.

6. Alex Rodriguez suffers a broken hand and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

7. Arcadia quarterback Joey Harmon will not have to sit out 30 days as per the CIF transfer rule because his family moved to the city of Arcadia sources say.

8. Of 123 media voters, 102 picked USC to beat Oregon in the Pac 12 title game on November 30.

9. UCLA will spend the first 13 days of training camp at Cal State San Bernardino beginning August 4.

10. On this date in 1933 Joe DiMaggio’s 61 game hitting streak comes to an end. DiMaggio, 19, was playing for the San Francisco Seals in the Pacific Coast League.
