California Muscles by Troy

Cal HC Jim Arnold wanted his troops to be physical Thursday night and they were.

(Fullerton)- Aaron Garcia’s nine-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter secured California’s 16-7 victory over Troy on Thursday night at Fullerton High School.

The touchdown finished off an 80-yard drive that began after the Warriors missed a 37-yard field goal attempt.

“We left at least 17 points on the field tonight,” said Condor HC Jim Arnold. His team missed several chances to blow the game open and trailed 7-6 at halftime.

Kicker Eric Amezquita used his left boot to salvage six points with a pair of field goals, but the advantage was erased when Troy’s Dallas Parent popped into and out of Cal’s defense to go 53-yards for a touchdown and a one point lead heading into the third.

“That kid (Parent) played a great game,” said Arnold.

With three minutes left in the third Amezquita drilled his third field goal of the game, this one from 20-yards, to put the Condors on top for good, 9-7.
