Game Night: Week Three

Lucas Rodriguez and Arroyo looking to rebound against Rowland

All games are at 7:00 pm unless otherwise indicated

Thursday 9/13

Don Lugo (1-2) at Azusa (1-1)- Citrus College

Last Year: Don Lugo 30-14

Azusa got a big victory last week hanging on to beat Maranatha. Don Lugo beat Maranatha by three touchdowns. The Aztecs will be in the game again in the fourth but this time they fall. Lugo wins.

Don Lugo 24 Azusa 21

Temple City (0-3) at Hoover (2-0)- Glendale

This has to be the first time in history that Hoover would actually be favored over Temple City if there were odds posted. But the Tornadoes are 2-0 and the Rams are 0-3 so…The good news is Temple City will score this week. Just not enough.

Friday 9/14

Rowland (3-0) at  Arroyo (1-2)

A month ago I would have liked Arroyo. Now I like Rowland. The concerning thing about the Knights is the defense. They gave up huge chunks of yardage last week to La Puente. It’s close but the Raiders prevail.

Baldwin Park (0-3) at San Gabriel (1-2)

Baldwin Park 26-22

Speaking of defenses to be concerned about. The Matadors have allowed 105 points in two games. The Braves aren’t bringing back memories of the ’85 Bears either. There should be a lot of points but SG is more explosive than BP. Mats win a shootout.

San Gabriel 35 Baldwin Park 31

El Monte (2-1) at Gladstone (2-0) – Citrus College

Last Year: El Monte 35-0

The Lions need to be careful here. They are coming off an emotional win over Covina but they can’t let up here. Gladstone has been impressive in wins over Northview and Baldwin Park.

In the end though the Gladiators won’t be able to catch El Monte. Brandon Martinez and company are just too much offensively.

El Monte 34 Gladstone 21

Glendale (1-1) at South Pasadena (1-1)

Last Year: South Pasadena 49-21

No we didn’t like South Pas’ loss to Hoover, especially after outscoring San Gabriel the previous week. But it might have been a  fluke. The Tigers came out a little over confident and Hoover came to play ball. The Tigers should rebound to beat Glendale.

South Pasadena 27 Glendale 17

La Canada (1-1) at Crescenta Valley (1-1) – Glendale

Last Year: Crescenta Valley 35-14

This one could be a toss up. CV got caught last week by San Marino while LC was falling to Glendale. Whoever makes the least mistakes usually wins. The Falcons should be that team here. CV survives fourth.

Crescenta Valley 17 La Canada 14

St. Francis 2-0) at La Mirada (2-1)

Mike Moschetti called Jim Harbaugh this week. He’s trying to get the 49ers on the schedule for next year. The Golden Knights are the next power to step on the field against La Mirada. The Matadores have been up to every challenge so far. They’ll get it done here.

La Mirada 28 St. Francis 14

La Salle (3-0) at Maranatha (0-3)

Last Year: Maranatha 20-3

3-0 La Salle? 0-3 Maranatha? Is that a typo? No it’s correct and the Minutemen are suddenly staring at their fourth straight loss. Maranatha has Andrew Elffers and we all know what he can do. But he needs more protection and he could use a few more weapons. The Lancers have a few explosives in their arsenal in Isreal Lacy, Amir Evans and Austin Wallis. La Salle wins its fourth straight.

La Salle 30 Maranatha 20

El Rancho (2-1) at Montebello (2-1)

Last Year: El Rancho 22-7

The Dons appear to have too much for Montebello. They racked up 52 last week on Bell Gardens. The Oilers defense has been stout but this might be too big of a mountain to climb. ER comes out on top.

El Rancho 38 Montebello 17

Warren (0-2) at Rosemead (0-2)

Warren was hit by a truck called Norwalk last week while Rosemead was slugging it out with South Torrance. The Panthers fell a punch short. They’ll land a few more against Warren. The Mead gets its first.

Rosemead 21 Warren 10

Monrovia (1-1) at San Dimas (3-0)

Last Year: San Dimas 31-14

San Dimas is playing like world beaters right now while Monrovia was down against Ayala and then up vs. Arcadia. So who wins? Monrovia of course. The Saints gave up a ton of points to Bonita and The Wildcats aren’t the Bearcats. They just have too much. This is the kind of game they’ll be up for. M-Town makes a statement. Take it to the bank? Uh, no.

Monrovia 35 San Dimas 28
