(Hacienda Heights) The Los Altos Conquerors used a 20 point third quarter to pull away and get their first win of the season Friday night in a 34-6 win over the visiting North View Vikings.

The win was a little retribution for the 9-7 loss on a game ending field goal last year.

“Last week we weren’t ready to play.  Even some of our seniors had that deer-in-headlights look.  We will be better this week” commented Los Altos Head Coach Felipe Aguilar prior to the contest.

Both defenses stepped up to start the game and the first half’s loan score came just passed the midway point in the second quarter. A 12-yard pass from Justin Zamano to Ryan Longoria capped a seven play 72-yard drive.

Los Altos went up 14-0 early in the third period when Vincent Becerra stepped in front of a Martin Arredondo pass and returned in 28-yards for the score.  Arrendondo struggled in his first start completing five of 12 passes for only 26-yards and the interception.

An Arredondo fumble at his own 31 set the Conquerors up deep in North View territory .  Los Altos took full advantage on a three-yard screen from Zamano to Andrew Yamakawa  that put Los Altos up 20-0.  Zamano completed six of 11 passed for 75-yards and two scores on the night.

“We were bad tonight all the way around.  Turnovers, penalties, we had trouble even getting on and off the field.  We are young and we knew we would take some lumps early, hopefully we’ll get better” North View Head Coach Jim Arrellanes after the game.

North View’s lone highlight of the evening came on the ensuing kickoff.  Josh Orona picked up the kickoff at his own 22-yard line, weaved his way through the defenders, got to the edge and was gone for a 78-yard return.   The extra point was blocked but the Vikings exhibited some signs of life.

Those signs were quickly doused as Longoria took the ensuing kickoff back 90-yards setting his team up with first and goal at the North View five.  Kameron Germany made the saving tackle.

The Conquerors capitalized on the big play quickly on the first play from scrimmage.  Randy Rodriguez punched it in from the five and when Omar Patino added the extra point, Los Altos led 27-6.

The final dagger came from Rodriguez when he found a crease and went 30-yards for the score.  Rodriguez finished the night carrying the ball 15 times for 97-yards and two touchdowns.

The Conquerors travel east next week to take on Ayala while North View stays home and plays host to the Arroyo Knights.
