Game Night: Week 7 Mid-Valley Division

Can Everado Camacho and the Panthers “pull something” against El Monte?

All games are at 7:00 pm unless otherwise indicated

Friday 10/12

Almont League

Schurr (2-4) at Bell Gardens (4-2)

Last Year: Schurr 7-0

People forget. Schurr actually won this game last year. The Spartans finished 3-7 last year and started off 0-4 this year before winning its last two including a big win over San Gabriel last week. The offense has struggled a little but but the defense has been solid. BG is coming off a 30-13 win over Alhambra. The Lancers might find the going tough early against the Schurr front but should pick it up as the game goes on. Home field advantage and Jorge Remigio should be enough for the Lancers. Bell Gardens wins.

Bell Gardens 21 Schurr 10

San Gabriel (2-4) at Montebello (4-2)

Last Year: San Gabriel 48-17

The Mats need this one in the worst way. A Loss could put them on the brink of elimination. The Oilers did what they needed to last week vs. Keppel. A win here puts them temporarily in the Almont driver’s seat. Marcus Portillo has nearly 500 yards on the ground. Montebello takes its second straight in league.

Mission Valley League

Gabrielino (6-0) at South El Monte (2-4)

Last Year: South El Monte 13-10

Can Richard Lopez and the Southmen “pull something” against Gabrielino?

Gabrielino is taking heat for its lack of quality opponents but the last I checked the Eagles are 6-0. Receiver Cameryn Matthews is having a solid season. But this one could be a test. It’s at the Swamp and Levi Wells is in his second game leading the South offense. SEM can play. South gave San Marino fits a couple of weeks ago before falling and Ibis Aguilar’s crew has solid backs in Leo Artiaga and Mario Burciaga. South El Monte pulls something.

El Monte (4-2) at Rosemead (3-3)

Last Year: El Monte 31-28

El Monte is coming off a huge win – maybe the biggest in the last 30 years. The Lions could suffer a let down. Rosemead won’t abandon the run game. The Panthers simply won’t be tempted to. They play pretty good defense and if they could force a couple of turnovers they might grab an early lead. With all that being said, El Monte still wins. The Lions and Brandon Martinez are too explosive. Even if they fall behind, they’ll come back and if they get the early lead it’s over. Rosemead doesn’t have the offensive horses to bounce back. The Panthers will hang around, they always do. But in the end it’s El Monte running off with the W.

El Monte 27 Rosemead 14

Rio Hondo League

Temple City (3-3) at South Pasadena (4-2)

Last Year: South Pasadena 28-6

South Pasadena was getting beat up last week by the best in the Rio Hondo while Temple City was beating up the worst. A win for TC would go a long way towards credibility but also giving them a shot at the playoffs. Both teams will pound it. Nic Starling is having a huge year for the Rams. Temple City plays it tough but the Tigers find a way.

South Pasadena 20 Temple City 13

Valle Vista League

Northview (4-2) at Wilson (2-5)

Last Year: Northview 18-7

The Vikings just need to make sure they don’t mess around. They’re in a position to take second in the Valle Vista. They’ve already taken care of Covina and Pomona and can’t get caught napping here against a Wilson team that is struggling. Don’t worry, they won’t. Javon Taylor and Victor Garcia take care of business and the Vikes get it done.

Northview 21 Wilson 13
