Lancers Hung by San Marino

By Jim Naysium

San Marino- Stevie Yortsos’ return from his one game suspension was overshadowed by fellow Senior Benny Hung as the San Marino Titans plowed through the visiting La Salle Lancers 35-13 Friday night.

Yortsos’ return was highly anticipated, and he did not disappoint. He made several spectacular plays, turning a botched snap on a punt into a first down and a bad snap on a field goal into two points, as well as two catches for 68 yards and touchdown and an interception. But ultimately it was Benny Hung who took the game over.

Hung finished the night with 232 yards on 23 carries and three scores. Throughout the night he dodged and juked Lancer defenders, and when he couldn’t do that, he ran them over. Hung had nine runs of nine yards or more and did not fumble.

The Titan defense also stood out, blocking a field goal and forcing three turnovers. They did, however, have trouble containing La Salle tight end Kishon Sanders. Sanders finished with over 150 yards receiving, sustaining many La Salle drives with conversions on third down. It was not enough, however, as Hung and the Titans prevailed.

Next Friday Night, San Marino takes its perfect record to Hoover, last night’s upset special with a 16-13 win over South Pasadena.
